Mi-1M, model conversion by Special Hobby - WIPYeni: 17 August, 21:44 1:48
I polished the epoxy templates and drilled holes in the underside, into which I glued the wooden log. I used the blocks ...

I still miss this small helicopter in my collection of flying machines used in Czechoslovakia. The time has come for me to rectify that. 😉

Hello, Greg. I know there's a Mi-1M kit in 1/72nd scale. Unfortunately, only this and a rather old kit from Special Hobby exists in 1/48 scale. In addition, this kit is an older version of the Mi-1A, which is different from the upgraded version of the Mi-1M. It has a different nose shape, different cockpit glazing and other minor changes. And since I decided to build the upgraded version of the Mi-1M, I will not avoid modifications to the kit.
To give you a better idea of the extent of the modifications to the kit, I've included a picture with the differences between the Mi-1A and Mi-1M versions color coded.

Oh, neat! I didn't realize there were so many changes between the versions. This is going to look great!

The project starts with a horror movie where one figure was shot in the back and had to receive a graft. Part of a Trumpeter deformity was transplanted and now he is recovering from his ordeal. The surgeon had to slash the inside with a bayonet and use a syringe full of acid to be able to beat the torso in a comfortable shape.

The RSO engine appears to be very fiddly, I can't seem to get it lined out straight in the frame. Today I was able to attach the tracklink supports and cut the wood for the dio base.

Thanks for the attention. I ordered a metal barrel, but too late I noticed it's 1/72. I immediately sent a mail to the store to switch this to 1/35, they still got a middle type. But I think the order was already dispatched.

The interior of the cabin is upgraded with some Eduard PE and the cabin doors are also improved. This DML kit has the correct seats on the new sprue H, in stead of the M113 seats with the older Dragon RSO kits. The engine will be clearly visible. The Friulmodel tracklinks are drilled through to fit the track pins. The set also contains beautiful sprockets and idlers and even the axles to connect these to the undercarriage.

While waiting for some paints to arrive in the mail to continue my MiG-23 build project, I decided to do a very quick build of the Eduard L-39 in my stash. This kit is labeled as a "weekend" build, which might be a bit optimistic for me, but should still be a quick progress.

Do you already have a plan for the shades you're going to use? I found the L-39 classic camouflage very hard to get right. I hope you'll have more luck with it.

For the Hungarian standard camo, MRP has released an entire set, consisting of MRP-351 Brown, MRP-352 Dark Green and MRP-353 Light Blue.

Yesterday I spent some time comparing the hue and tint of the MRP paints with my own mix of Tamiya acrylics (as described in photo 26 above), and found them to be absolutely identical. I also found the MRP paints much too smelly and aggressive and hard to adjust if you want to blend in slightly varying tones in panels etc. The Tamiyas can furthermore be used for extremely diluted thin filter applications, while the MRP are block solid.

Well done on those paints!
I agree with you, Tamiya paints spray great and don't smell nearly as nasty as MRP's.

I see you mixed too much of this colour and used it on the background 😋
Lovely preshading, sth I don't have enough patience for

Very nice painting job, Thomas. Looks fantastic so far 👍
I recently saw that Edward has released the transparent parts of this kit as "L-39 Revised Canopy":
L-39 Revised Canopy (Eduard 7040Y, 1:72)
Do you know what problem the original transparent parts have?

Cuajete, thank you! No, I wasn't aware of any issues with the canopy. To me, the version provided in the kit is good enough, it certainly looks correct compared with photos.

I'm not sure, but the kit photos show onle the multi part canopy. The revised Canopy kit also has a single peace closed version.

Nicolas, yes, you are right. With the new set you also get a closed canopy so the builder doesn't have to join the separate pieces together. I guess it makes for a simpler build.

Very nice! This build reminds me that I started a similar kit more thas ten years ago, with a Czech camo and some decals already applied...Now It's om the "shelf od doom" ...Maybe something I'll retake it!
