Thanks CaptGPF, The weathering side of modelling is what I look forward to the most. I look at a lot of better modellers work, mostly on this site, and try and copy what they've done. I'm constantly going back over a period of time, adding little touches here and there, so I would say I spend weeks after its painted, decaled, varnished and oil washed.

Hi,just a little note about the fire extinguisher, they apparently not red,but the same colour as the tank,or grey.I think we all make this mistake on our model tanks. I did the same on my cromwell tank.

Thanks Gary. I realised this after seeing a few builds on this site. The lack of true colour pics of German armour doesnt help. 🙂
I'll rectify this when I finish this off and add the aerial along with some stowage.
I also think upon reflection, that I've overdone it with the weathering after seeing better Tiger builds on here.

As others have said, the red fire extinguisher is an anachronism for WW2; anything bright red like that isn't tactical. Unless this is a modern scene with a museum tank?

This one has legs now. I had to remove the canopy, I had to drill out the holes for the nose gear mounting pins as the holes were to small and I drilled through and hit the sear which promptly came loose and was rattling around in the nose. It was actually a good thing though as the inside of the cockpit and canopy were full of sanding dust, so was able to clean that out. I forgot to put any nose weight in it, but luckily with the canopy on and drop tanks installed it sits on the nose gear. Just need to add the final touches and it will be finished. I will get more pictures tomorrow.

The fit of the parts is pretty good on this kit but the halves with the engines do need some work. Also, the parts with the exhausts are moulded in 2 halves but therefore shows a seam which needs to go. This is because of the moulding process I think to create the tiny exhausts.

Dryfitted the wings which fit very good. They only need some support to prevent them from sagging.

Thanks Alec, this is a really nice, easy to build kit. A bit of monster due to it's size off course! Also nice to build a kit without any conversions etc, just old school straight from the box.

This black cat has a very bad eye. I'm not sure he likes the model. My son's white cat is staying with us temporarily. I keep him away from the models. I think the seaplane runs great. Are there any problems with it?

@ Живко, well the kit is quite good fit wise. Only negative thing I can point out at this moment is the engineering of the exhaust parts, they are in 2 pieces which creates a seam that should not be present. This takes a bit of work, times 6 😅

Welcome to the first kit in my life that I can call overengineered for sure.
The white parts are scratched to take the place of PE parts or offerings to the carpet monster (did I mention I have no carpet in here?)
Cockpit solely contains 21 parts (including PE) + decals (fuselage walls not included) 😮
You have been warned.

Welcome Gents to this very frustrating project.
The designer(-s?) went full ahead towards the full compliance with the original as far as I can see.
There is maybe 1/4th of the cockpit visible now (w/o the canopy!) and they really think that a plastic mast glued to transaprent windshield can withstand the rigging.

Łukasz, I think it would have been better to make the Amodel's kit because of the great experience you have with those hard old tools, 😛
The last part with the mast and rigging seems very complicated. It might be better to drill a little carefully into the windshield so as not to glue the mast flush and try not to make it too weak with the wire tauting.

True señor, considering starting a Hansa Jet or sth like that next 😄
And regarding the mast - this is exactly what I did - drilled a 0.4mm hole to insert 0.3mm tube, squeezed flat on the inside part (the outer part will be made flat later).
The only problem was - I damaged the PE gunsight inside, so I had to rob one from the second kit in the twin set.

Well, the detailing of this kit kept me frustrated more and more - so it landed on the shelf of doom.
It turned out I wanted the fuselage band to be too yellow and I flodded the damn rivets. And then when trying to wash the paint off, I took wrong bottle (Mr Hobby Tool Cleaner instead of the levelling thinner) and I melted some rivets completely.
No idea when I'll go back to it, maybe if I buy a very tiny riveter, who knows...
Thanks for watching

Many thanks mates.
I'm looking at various riveters, but the fact I can barely see the rivets in 1/72 makes their restoration a challenge on its own.
I definitely need a break from that kit, perhaps I should switch to this one (being A-model mold actually) 😛

Just starting the F-16AM (ROCAF) version of this so I'll be following along. What color are you doing the cockpit tub? I've got a mix for dark gull grey that "looks close" but curious what you settled on.
Oh, also the kit comes with a bunch of 500lb resin Mk. 82s I don't plan to use, along with resin MERs for them. Let me know if you want them.

Thanks. I'm using standard Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. The quick Setting cement is not good for those joints. The regular cement, when given plenty of time to cure is pretty good. The fuselage joints have come out really strong. The wings are good when plenty of milling is done to make the joint very clean. Then the cement has a large surface area to cling to. So far, its all gone very well.

I'm with DM. I love the quick-setting but it's just not as strong. I also reinforced mine with some sprue "spars" but they had to be thinned down a little because the wings are quite skinny and would bulge otherwise.

The dipping didn't come out too well. Nothing to do with the colour mix which was brilliant, just that dipping left some unevenness in the finish which meant removal and doing again. Next time I'm going to spray it 🤣

Is there a fitting problem in this kit? It seems that you used a lot of putty and other stuffs to fill gaps during the assembling stage.

Hello JBK, thank you very much!
Hello kab5100, there is no real problem with the fit. This can all be solved with Putty. But it depends on your personal point of view how much you tolerate unevenness in the fit. This is an older kit from Kinetic, but a good one for the time. There's a reason Kinetic markets the Gold series as "better" quality. In short: the fit is not bad but not perfect either. Putty is necessary, but not excessive.
Some experience in plastic model making is necessary, as, for example, you have to glue the cockpit hoods together from two transparent parts. To show folded wings you have to saw the wings, slats, flaps and spoilers. When assembling the folded wings you have to work very carefully so that they don't look crooked. These are jobs that require patience and care.
The Dark Prowler kit decals are great!
But! ...The kit has another problem. The instructions are wrong in many areas! The "real" Prowler has received many upgrades over the course of its life, which is particularly visible in the different antenna configurations. The "Dark Prowler" is the latest ICAP variant. The parts for this variant are included in the kit but are not shown in the instructions. For a correct representation you have to use reference photos - that is my strong recommendation.
I don't want to scare anyone away from the Kinetic Prowler, on the contrary: if I wanted to build a Prowler again I would choose the Kinetic kit again. With reference photos, patience and some putty, this can become a beautiful project.
I marked the issues that I encountered during construction in the instructions and put them in the gallery.

I think this is my first time with an ICM mold. The kit has a lot of flash and is very subtle in its markings. This creates a bit of a challenge cleaning things up because I have to stop and figure out what to take away and what to keep. But I think when everything is cleaned up it should be pretty straightforward.

There was one piece that was too big to fit. The instructions said that it was the backing for the control panel for the navigator. I started filing it down but then realized that Revell screwed up the instructions and it was actually the pilot's headboard. Now I have to repair the headboard.

Well I blamed Revell for getting the instructions wrong but when I checked the ICM instructions they had the same mistake. The piece clearly belongs behind the pilot if you look at the kit. So either the engineers who designed the kit got it wrong or the graphics department got something wrong. Either way I went with the kit and not the instructions.

The more I work with this model the more I am truly amazed at how finely detailed ICM was able to make the mold. It's incredible. I hope I can keep any of those details without the paint just filling it all in.

Hi Skyhiker 👋
Always pays to give paint good drying time before more work, l like 48hrs on main airframe, probably why l tend to have couple of builds on the go ..... something to do between drying periods.
Looking good , l always hand paint my wheels, lve done 67 in 2yrs 🫣
Good luck on next steps 👍

Good job on the camo, every plane probably has variations in camo so box art is good, it does work well as a camouflage that pattern, breaks up the profile well.

Thank you Mona, that must have been a terrifying experience. The idea would be a fortified position in the Mekong Delta. I'm planning to build a sandback bunker and a piece of ricefield. The M113's will be stationary in a defensive position. Soldiers will be relaxed not knowing what is coming. But the layout is still evolving. Haven't decide the size of the groundwork yet. I'll be starting the diorama base soon... Will be continued 😉

@Mark
I've used Vallejo quite a lot, and I'm mainly using AK and ICM lately.
Paint has been a big learning curve that I'm still on.
I'm found that from one paint to the next and from one colour to the next the behaviour of the paint change's. White's, greys need much more thinning ....alot of it seems to be all about the thinning raschio for that particular paint, water will thin Vallejo...but it doesn't get it out the gun/airbrush well.
Mr leveling thinner is a good go-to and always pays to experiment with small amount before job to find nice mix.
I've lost few hairs 🫣 and blamed the brush, changed the needle, pressure...all the time it was thinning right.😤.

I concur with the above. Eduardargh! decals, the worst. If I ever work up enough courage to do another Eduardargh! Kit I will leave the carrier film on and matt them down with extreme prejudice. 🤟🥸👍

Thanks! In the end I managed to remove the carrier film from wing roundels and most of the stencils using the whitespirit and careful rubbing with the brush. And still, they cracked and crumbled on the panel lines, but it was relatively easy to fix it with paint touchup. I had totally different experience with my first Eduard model. It was enough to lift one corner and then the film peeled off easily. 🤔

And yes it does look a bit like a tuk tuk. Incidentally there have been a couple of screw up so far but obviously I won't be telling everyone as I want to make it look like I know what I'm doing. 🙂

Hi Gorby 👋
Another interesting one 😃👍
Nice project, they used 3wheel trucks like these at Cadburys factory as they need tighter turning circles round the plant.

Glad you're tagging along Mr D.
Their turning circle was one of the reasons they where so successful. Do you have any association with Cadburys - other than eating their products of course. 🙂

One interesting thing to have in mind is that Gorby set to build the ancient 1962 tool of the Scarab and scratch the Mechanical Horse precisely when there appeared recent (and immeasurably better, as for the Scarab - I guess) 3d-printed 1:72 kits of both the Scarab and the French relatives of the MH (i.e. FAR tractors)... But that's Gorby (much to our delight!) 👍

I think they were built at Scammell Lorries Ltd in Watford.
In fact there is now a road in the area called Scammell Way.
Typical of Britain, close the factory and name a new road after it to remind us that we used to actually make stuff. 🙁

Great progress and entertaining narrative 🙂. The trailer wheels turned out nice, I can't imagine making something like that. Just curious: why not make one and cast a copy (I think you have done that in the past)? Or does this have to do with that logical thing…

Thanks for the comment mates. 🙂
Lex: Yes this is from the old Airfix kit. Quite enjoying the build so far - although that's probably because most of the build is scratch work. 😄
Alec: Typically the trailer wheels look like a different size to the other wheels in the kit which is why I had to cobble something together rather than cast them. I've been meaning to try and scratch wheels for a while so it was also a bit of an experiment. Hopefully future ones will be better.

Like what you have done so far, good thinking on utilising items , l always look at a item before l throw it away to see if it could be useful.
My fire extinguisher handle was just offcuts laying in my scrap tub., ps it finished now will photo tomorrow.
Your right...a MC Donald's or frozen pizza box would be bit out of place 🤣 Fire ash, tin cans, spud peel n bit of dog poo most likely 😄.
Quite rewarding the scratch build l imagine.

I have to fight against an inherited hoarding gene, so it's a bit of a fine line I have to walk with saving odd and sods for scratching.
At the moment it's very enjoyable project. It's helping to keep my grey matter from seizing up completely, working out how to make something from a pile of bits.

Also if you don't mind me asking, what operation did your missus go through? Having to administer blood thinners sounds pretty serious.

Progress has been slow. I have a problem with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) so everything slows down including brain and enthusiasm. Particularly enthusiasm. It's the part of the year I have more difficulty working out how to make parts and usually the first or second attempts end in disaster before something passable emerges.
Perhaps I should drum into myself "Must do KITS in the winter…. Must do KITS in the winter..."

@ gvizbi, thx a lot for your kind comment on this old one. Coming from such a talented modeler it feels great
@ Pietro, Thank you very much for your kind support. Much appreciated. I really enjoy work on oldies.

The weathering really is beautiful. I love the old Italeri kits. My first kits were the old Testors brand.

@Pavlo, thx for your kind words, when I was very young I thought this was a "what if" or science fiction vehicle 😄

Thank you for your comment Владимир Ловцов . Apreciated.
The kettenkraft was hand painted, later on the RSO was already done with airbrush, and it's easy to see the improvement from that.

@ Rui, Thank you for stopping by and comment, apreciated, glad you liked this one
@ Jennifer, not quite. 8 years ago I discover scalemates, and posted it, but this one was my 2nd or 3rd Dio??? Done so long ago that I don't even remember when. And I'm such a slow intermittent modeler that I used to stay years without one single build.
Than scalemates enter the scene and I was more motivated but even so my mojo it's better but still very inconsistent
@ Mr James, you may be right but don't worry, scalemates it's a never ending source of Great and new and Beautiful work's that are always appearing, that's why I'm here every single day since.

Okay, Rui, now I am even more impressed. For someone who started working on models about a month ago, the idea of working on them for that many years is incredible.

Hi, Rui S 🙂 ! Out of all your models, I think this one reaches the greatest level of realism and meticulousness. It's not as big as your Panther diorama but still it must have taken a long time to complete. That is some great work right there and it is definitely inspiring. I hope you have another one like this in the near future 🤙

Hi Maxime, Thank you for your nice comment. Apreciated.
I don't know if you access all my dios. This one is an old one and I enjoy doing it and the result I got on the RSO, but in my opinion not my best work. And also not even the one with the Panther.
Anyway don't get me wrong, I'm really glad you like this one.

Oldie but goldie! A "Raupenschlepper Ost" is always a great subject in my opinion. And Sa-Kuva - Please type in: RSO
There is a lovely picture. The Finns had used 10 RSO in continuation war. I think the colour is German sand, the PAK is estimated finnish 3-Tone (green-brown-grey). Finnish green and brown may be very similar on bw-photographs.

Thank you Thomas E. apreciated. Sorry for the late reply and I agree It's a great but somehow strange subject.

You always make the best scenes.
The dirt floor looks as soft as real life.

Thank you very much for your kind words Mate. Really Apreciated.
One of the floor materials, if I remember correctly, was coffee grounds.
As usual on my Dios I use some natural materials 😉 😄

@ Mr D, Thank you very much for taking the time to sotp by and comment. This was a 2 fase Dio. First I've done the dio just with the Ketten & trailer kits and the radio emplacement, then I've build the RSO and I thougt I could place it on that base.
@ Scott Thank you very much. This is an old work but I apreciate a lot your comment.

Superb diorama, very realistic, I really like the patina of the vehicles, very nice rendering of the tracks.

No airbrush or decal softeners?? How did you do this? However you did it, it's gorgeous. I love all the details. I can see that a lot of thought was put into this.

@ Jean-Daniel, Thank you very much for your nice comment. I'm glad you like them. The RSO tracks were a real treat, it was quite difficult to mold them convincingly, as I didn't know what superglue was at the time. 😮 So I had to use sewing thread as I did and documented later on my Esci halftrack sdkfz 10/4.
@ Jennifer, Thank you so much for stoping bye and comment. Apreciate and happy for your kind words. I always try to think my dios in a way that they tell a plausible story, even when there are new additions later, as was the case. But don't get me wrong. What I meant is that the Ketten, the trailer and the figures were not painted with an airbrush, but the RSO was. I think it was the first time I used it in a 1/35 kit.

I've used the some tarpaulin material in my Opel blitz. It works just fine.

A huge investment in time and money for something that never flew. A diorama of a smashed in plane in a bombed out factory is really your only option for a diorama.

First, it was tested and flew but was never used in combat. Second, never heard about "what if"? Possibilities with this one are LIMITLESS...
