I have the later version to do, looks like the canopy is tricky

My current 144 build is the Zvezda Lagg-3, it is a little more basic...

Christian Bruer
The canopy fit is awfull. You should reduce the size of the cockpit cover just where the clear part fit. I also sand the clear part inside along the seam line. I used superglue to fit the canopy in place in spite oft any risk of fogging. I just look around thermoforming the canopy, because I cut the part in two for a better fit of the canopy. Cheers Christian

Mike McCabe
That's disappointing, it might be better just to make another as you say and cut it open.
24 August 2013, 08:24
Christian Bruer
It worked well! I add a coat of interior green to the canopy also along the seamline to the fuselage. The the fit is still ok for the scale.
24 August 2013, 17:14
Christian Bruer
I added some PE seat belts (Brengun). Looks quite tiny😉
26 August 2013, 09:36
Holger Kranich
OMG!
What sweet and small belts! Must be the hell to work with... But you are an experianced friend of fiddely metalparts, i know!
26 August 2013, 11:18
Christian Bruer
It's just easier as it look like😢

Christian Bruer
The underside already painted in white. I used Vallejo Model Air and because of the scale I will now preshading was done. I will do that by using washes and oil color for some shade effects.

Photoetched parts for 1:144????
I was thinking, Bill the "Braille Scale Nerd" is crazy??!!!
But detailing 1:144 is absolutely crazy!!
🙂 🙂 🙂
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

Christian Bruer
Thanx Dirk! Working with fiddly parts is very common form me from scale 1/350 ship modelmaking. Well scale 1/144 is quite large for me😉
5 October 2013, 16:11
Bill Gilman
"Bill the Braille Scale Nerd?" That's Bill the Braille Scale Buffoon" please! 🙂
Christian - fantastic work, my friend. You are right, working with the tiny PE is easier than it looks. And it looks bloody hard! So that means it's just hard...
5 October 2013, 16:48
Christian Bruer
yep you're right😉

Bill Gilman
Yeah, I saw that one on Britmodeller. I was so speechless, I was type-less and couldn't leave a comment. Unbelievable! So, Christian, have you arranged the spark plugs and wires in the proper firing order? 🙂
5 October 2013, 18:00
Christian Bruer
I did my very best on the 18 Cylinder Double Wasp but it seems to me there is a little bit muddling all around with the engine😉
5 October 2013, 18:20
Mike McCabe
Looking very nice, are you using a scheme from the box?
5 October 2013, 20:55
Oliver Peissl
Wahnsinn!!!
Und das in 144.
Einfach toll!!
5 October 2013, 21:44
Christian Bruer
@Mike, I will use the VF-9 scheme, white 17 aboard CV-9 USS Ess*x. @Oliver, the kit is really nice and well detailed for that scale. Look to the link I have posted before what is possible in that tiny scale. Cheers, Christian

The Spit in the link from Christian is absolutely insane work!
6 October 2013, 12:33

great ..... I would not get it done. Too small for me.
And the link to the spit is totally amazing ....

Martien, just try it🙂 Yep the Spit is fantastic and inspired me😉

144 is great fun, I don't build aircraft in any larger scale but there are some great kits and subjects now.

Well one more old and unfinished project made some progress. I now paint the tiny Hellcat, a lot of masking was required to get the result. I'm not 100% confident with the color tone of both Intermediate Blue and Non-Specular Sea Blue, but I guess I can manage it with some weathering and highlighting effects.

Cheers, Christian

Washing and highlighting took me the whole afternoon before I get a result I was confident with. I use only oil colors, black, white, bright and dark blue and some browns. The highlight effects were done by adding bright color splotches and blur them with an old broad brush.

Now it need some time to dry before I can add a layer of gloss varnish.

Cheers, Christian

I engraved a styrene sheet to represent a common USN carried deck. To make an illusion of the tie downs I drilled holes along the centre line. Once painted in a light brown / grey and dry brushed with some shades of blue and blue grey it looks quite nice even the tie downs. Some more washing and highlighting will be done with oils.

Cheers, Christian

The base is finished. I used oils to get a worn effect with some wood that shine through the flight deck stain.

Another loooooong lasting project, but decals are applied now and the final coat of varnish and the finish of this ot far.
I usex the kit decals, printed by Cartograf they're quite well butna bit to thick for this tiny scale. Took me some more softener untill they sat right in all panel lines.

top work! Just one question - it looks as if the sliding canopy is missing?
25 March 2016, 20:29
Christian Bruer
Thank you very much mates for all your kind comments.
@Thomas, good spotting, yes the sliding canopy is still missing. I cut the one piece canpoy comming with the kit, to show it open. But I was not confident with the thickness of the remaining sliding part. I'm not confident with vacu forming so I wait for a vacu formed canopy by BRENGUN🙂

Album info

Model is nearly finished and awaits a first coat of paint. The Platz Hellcat is really nice, but I'm not so confident with the clear parts.
