Two Seat Eduard Spitfire conversion

Album image #1
You have to cut the fuselage halfway down and move the cockpit forward to install the rear one. Measure twice-cut once!

Album image #2
This shows the wood form I made to vacuform the rear canopy and clear tunnel.

Album image #3
The Eduard kit is a real gem, so well engineered. But when doing something like this, test fit at least ten times.

Album image #4
I used parts from two kits to make the two cockpits. It's a tight fit in the real Spit, in 1/48 it hurts your eyes!

Album image #5
Making up the interior was a lot of time. Almost everything is different from the single seat Mark 9.

Album image #6
The real aircraft has a bakelite seat in the front and aluminium in the rear painted black.

Album image #7
I even reproduced the newer style harnesses. They are black with blue hardware. The rear one is not installed in this picture yet.

Album image #8
The camo on the real PT462 was not done in exact WW2 colours, they were sprayed in the USA years ago before she went to Wales.

Album image #9
The Welsh Dragon flags were printed on white decal film and cut out. The real aircraft is high gloss finish too.

Album image #10
The underside is a cross between Medium Sea Gray and Duck Egg Blue.

Album image #11
Made the prop decals myself. If you look closely (in my original photos) even the blades have different numbers, just like the real one.

Here's a shot of the real aircraft.

Thank you. It sure felt like it when I was done. When Alex opened it, he said his dad would be speechless! That made me feel good.

Thanks Clifford. I have now built 3 of these, but in my mind, this one was the best result. The Eduard kit is sooooooooooo nice!

And the shiny finish is accurate. Anthony has sold the Spit to the Imperial War Museum recently but when he flew it, the aircraft was spotless and shiny. Looked like he waxed it frequently.

Album info

This model was commissioned by Alex Hodgson, whose father Anthony owns the real PT462 two seat Spitfire. I spent a lot of time on this one and had dozens of photos supplied by Alex. Hundreds of hours!
