F-2A Digital camo
Eduard Brass PE.
Pit done and fuselage closed. I failed to glue the tub in a correct and level position, but that'll do. Still deciding on closed or opened canopy.
First time trying sprue goo, likeing it so far.
Canopy will definitely need work. I was planning to close it, but it looks like it will have to be open.
Since the canopy will have to remain open, I tried some scratch to correct and busy up the area.
Intake goes on with some help.
Cockpit ready to be closed up for painting.
MrColor 374 Blue coat over grey Mr surfacer.
Guess you can't win all the time with decals. Hue issue, microsol discoloration of paint, some residual overspray under transparent parts... The plane went to the "deal with it later" box as I ordered the DXM sheet to see if that's any better..
DXM Sheet left, Hasegawa sheet right and center, with Microsol-eaten Gunze paintjob... DXM is a closer match, but still not exactly there.
A few hours spent with DXM decals. Some of the colour patches given by DXM aren't accurate, but it does look the part overall. Now to tidy up some, mix a dark blue match for the canopy and then it's on to the many stencils.
How many stencils is too many? Almost done with that! Also finally getting close to editing colour-accurate pictures.
Hasegawa 3D printed F-14 nozzle (probably from KA models?). Not sure I like the surface aspect, all wavy and the printing filament is quite visible on some panels. Plane is glossed, curing before panel washes.
Forgot to add the 5g weight in the nose so I ended up with a tail sitter. Solution I found was to add metal inside the seat, which thankfully worked! Only position lights, pitots and static dischargers left to do, at last.

Spruegoo is great stuff. I just have to remember to leave it alone long enough to dry. LOL.

I concur to that! 😄 Sometimes I get too impatient and start sanding before it has thoroughly cured. 🙁

Yeah it tends to remain a bit soft for quite long but it's been very useful so far. Perhaps I didn't put enough plastic into the mix.

There's a very good looking 1/48 build somewhere else, think it was ARC. Not sure how but that dude had seemingly matching decals and paints 🙂

Well underway I see, but I still managed to get in for the most interesting bits!

A few hours spent in decaltown. Although my picture is not 100% accurate and the light blue looks darker in reality, hues are really all over the place on the decals, so I decided not to care too much. Perhaps I should have used MrColor C14/C72 rather than the special JASDF set.

Finally done with this little plane! Lovely colourful scheme. The decaling isn't 100% perfect, but I could only rub them into submission so many times before they popped up again after a clear coat.

I think you can be really happy with this one - the camo & markings came out great, as did all the other details - a really special-looking model 👍

It looks really sharp, nice to see F-2 build, it's not such a popular topic 👍

Congrats for choosing the sexiest looking fighter out there. And for turning into such a beauty!

I keep reading that you were struggling with this build, but why did you post pictures of a totally different splendid build then??? 😉

Thank you John, Neuling, Patrick, Juergen and Clifford!
Neuling, thankfully the only painting I did was the light blue, I can't imagine having to mask all those pixels!
Patrick, I'm still having microsol induced nightmares, but that was worth it 🙂.
