Das Boot
Work in progress .. adding the B-24 Liberator
This is my ‘mini-me’ 1/144 scale seascape vignette of the US Navy’s B-24 J Liberator B-6 “T” of VB-105, which flew from Dunkeswell, Devon, between 1944-45, hunting u-boats in the Bay of Biscay.
The submarine is the Type VII C U-Boat, U-96 which, during autumn 1941, war correspondent Lothar-Günther Buchheim joined for her seventh patrol. This experience was the basis for his 1973 bestselling novel Das Boot, which was adapted into the 1981 Oscar-nominated film!

My first U-Boat … was a really different build for me and quite chilling when I thought about its use and the conditions the folk serving in them would have suffered.

Very nice !! Good idea to add the B-24 (also 1/144?)
Good work on the water diorama, especially the waves 👌

Hi Jonathan 🙂 Gosh this is highly impressive work. Looks awesome! 👏 I get a real feeling of action from this.... Agreed... No way would I be a submariner!

Thanks everyone 🙏
Bas … I have a confession, the B-24 is actually1:350 scale. It's amazing just how large a u-boat is. I did also make a 1:350 scale sub, but it just looked wrong, so I went for a larger scale aircraft to add that perspective of the aircraft being closer to the viewer.
