The diorama base is 3/4" plywood which was sealed and then I put on the runway made of scribed styrene sheets painted with a rattle can of Krylon desert tan camo. A little stainingj with Tamiya panel liner finished it off. The snow is Tamiya snow and some snow from Krycell under that.

The walking flak tank is from ModelCollect in 1/72 and was a very complicated little kit but went together fairly well. I painted the entire model with Tamiya white and then stained the hydraulic and mechanical undergear with Tamiya enamel dark iron thinned down to about 10%. the rust and metal flaking were achieved with a sponge dabbed lightly on the edge. Some panel washes completed the finish.

I wanted to capture the feel of every military airport I flew through, especially those in frozen climates. I was always impressed at the level of snow removal but moreso the lonely and desolate feeling one had to get being stationed there.

Had this tank been built it would have been enormous. I'm still looking for the right set of figures to perhaps show some perspective.

I agree. Some figures are needed to give more feeling for the scale. You definitely conveyed the feeling you have been aiming for.

Album info
Squadron's 1/72 kit of the Haunebu with a couple of HO scale buildings (one is an airport tower, the maintenance building is a walthers kit for an art deco overpass)
This is a 1946 foo-fighter with a paper panzer walking tank with an over and under Kugelblitz turret. A 12.8 cm flak gun and a 1/72 RSO (die-cast) complete the scene.
