Decided to start out by testing Tamiya TS-36 spray for the fluoro red color. Maybe this was due to the rattle can being purchased when I got the model ~6 years ago, but it wasn't as good as the other Tamiya sprays.

Though I started painting the body in 2017, I stripped it down and re-painted using the airbrush instead of rattle cans.
I did a lot of sanding between rounds of paint for an extra smooth finish!

Carefully cut Fujimi's masking template out, then created my own just in case of mistakes.

Another view of the masking. I think the "hips" of the red paint are too high up on the bodywork - they should be right at that edge - but I couldn't find much to confirm or deny, and that's where the masking fit best so I just went with it.

Airbrushed Mr Color 171 Fluorescent Red. This was the closest match I could find for RAL3024. Didn't match the kit decals, but perfectly matched the MSM decals.

Moment of truth - pulling this masking was nerve wracking.

Unfortunately some of the white paint came off with the tape. Luckily it wasn't in a difficult spot to fix.

Patched up and ready for sanding.

Aaaaaand it's blended.

Rear wing endplates decaled - I'd end up having a bunch of problems with the red paint on the left side end plate.

Decals on, love the way it looks!

The finish came out a little chalky after all the sanding, so I might not be able to get that deeeeeep gloss after clear coat. But at this point I'm just happy to have a smooth and colorfast finish to work with.

Could I learn to love again? Pulled this from the stash after 6 years of sitting half-done. Wasn't confident enough in my abilities circa 2017 to paint the bodywork for this car and do it justice. After all I've learned in the time since...could I make a good model out of this now?
