Let the modifications begin
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/0/5/6/1322056-71874-24-720.jpg)
Enlarged the tip of the starter with a small magnet. Just thought I'd try something new. Not sure if I like it. Will know better once the piece is finished.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/6/7/1/1323671-71874-18-720.jpg)
This is the finished starter. I'm happy with it
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/6/8/1/1323681-71874-84-720.jpg)
My own mix of Chevy engine red.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/6/8/3/1323683-71874-69-720.jpg)
The camera makes it look more red than it is...
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/6/8/4/1323684-71874-72-720.jpg)
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/6/7/8/1323678-71874-95-720.jpg)

A little repair needed on this piece. Tamiya putty to the rescue.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/2/9/5/1329295-71874-27-720.jpg)
Gap filled with Tamiya putty.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/4/6/7/1327467-71874-98-720.jpg)
I'm usually scared of spiders, but this one is okay.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/4/5/2/1327452-71874-54-720.jpg)
Engine coming along nicely.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/4/6/2/1327462-71874-92-720.jpg)
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/2/9/6/1329296-71874-27-720.jpg)
Tyred coated in a light wash of Tamiya rubber black.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/4/5/4/1327454-71874-41-720.jpg)
Kept the kit chrome for the wheels and added a bit of black panel liner.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/4/6/3/1327463-71874-60-720.jpg)
More black panel liner added to the front grill. I may still add more. I find this easier than sanding and painting each hole.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/4/6/4/1327464-71874-78-720.jpg)
These parts don't look too good, so I may have to bleach and rechrome them.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/4/6/6/1327466-71874-56-720.jpg)
Chrome very carefully removed from the steering wheel with a ceramic scraper.

Woodgrain added using a grey gundam marker.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/4/5/8/1327458-71874-98-720.jpg)
The body is good, no major issues, just the usual Revell sanding.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/4/5/9/1327459-71874-98-720.jpg)
Uh oh, spoke too soon! Will have to fill this in with some putty.

Back to square one with this. A little too much retarder in the clear orange just wiped everything away.

The instructions called for the rear shocks to be white, but that's a little boring! Thought I'd be creative and make them pop. This is SMS Crystal Topaz over SMS Yellow. The pearl doesn't really show up in the photo unfortunately.

Then a coat of Chevy engine red. This is my own mix of Tamiya acrylics (red 10 : orange 8 : yellow 3) mixed with Mr Levelling Thinners.
![Album image #80 Album image #80](/albums/img/1/5/6/1341156-71874-22-720.jpg)
Some slight orange peel, but nothing major. Looking forward to wet sanding this one.
![Album image #81 Album image #81](/albums/img/1/6/0/1345160-71874-65-720.jpg)
So, after wet sanding and burning through in a couple of spots, I added a few more coats and let dry. After wet sanding a second time I am left this.
![Album image #82 Album image #82](/albums/img/1/5/9/1345159-71874-40-720.jpg)
Not sure why this happened and unsure where to go from here.
![Album image #83 Album image #83](/albums/img/0/3/4/1352034-71874-88-720.jpg)
Okay... so I resprayed it again this time, adding a few coats of clear on top. Left it a few days and this is how it came out.
![Album image #84 Album image #84](/albums/img/0/3/2/1352032-71874-10-720.jpg)
There was hardly any orange peel so I skipped wet sanding and went straight for the Tamiya compounds.
![Album image #85 Album image #85](/albums/img/0/3/3/1352033-71874-99-720.jpg)
Ready for decals.
![Album image #86 Album image #86](/albums/img/0/9/6/1368096-71874-33-720.jpg)
Decals and 2k down... although the 2k decided to cough up a little on the last coat.
![Album image #87 Album image #87](/albums/img/0/9/7/1368097-71874-19-720.jpg)
This will need some serious sanding.
![Album image #88 Album image #88](/albums/img/0/9/8/1368098-71874-25-720.jpg)
The inside on the bonnet (hood) is done with Mr Surfacer 1500 Black straight from the spray can. This gave me the look I was after so stopped there.
![Album image #89 Album image #89](/albums/img/1/0/7/1368107-71874-77-720.jpg)
Got the bumps out with a tonne of wet sanding. Started with 4000 and worked up to 8000, then onto the Tamiya compounds.

Ohhh not good paint problems
I'm sorry I don't know enough to help you but hang in there mate
It won't be long before more experienced people will be giving
You some possible ways to sort it out and also provide possible
Reason why this happened
I did have a model were I had something like it happen
I broke all the rules
Didn't wash the model before paint
And I think another problem I had was not wanting longer to overcoat
But sure am interested in what happened and how to fix it

This is suspicious. Necer saw this. If I were you, I'd spray bnodycolor lightly over all. Then a couple of clear coats (I'd try 3). Then it should be possible to wetsand the clear coat only if there are imperfections before spray the final layer.

i had nearly the same paintissues on my 57 BelAir i'm working on. i sanded the body wet with 4000 grid and painted the parts with bodycolor again. i've redone that twice, after taht i painted some layer of clear coats.
22 November 2022, 09:33
![](/profiles/img/71874-861-s.jpg)
I will layer it up again in colour and then add a few clear coats before sanding
