Vought XF4U-1 Mini Groupbuild, Short Version / before Crash
This is the first time for me to start a build by cutting the kit apart.
Fuselage cut up in order to be able to relocate the cockpit forward, and to shorten the hull in front of the wingroot.
To be continued…….

Comparison, before and after
Cockpitsection moved forward , gap filled with styrenesheet
Cockpit assembly miraculously fits with only minor alterations
Preparation to fill the gap between the kitpart and the razorback
Testfit with styrenesheet
Razorback restored after cockpit-relocation and lowering
Inner Flaps with actuators.
Control surfaces plus actuators
Bit by bit the subassemblies take shape, legs finished
Engine finished
Metallic Detail engine is a bit too long for the cowling, if the kit‘s exhaust plate has to fit in there as well, so the engine had to be slightly shortened. Exhaust plate is needed, because cowlflaps will be displayed open, so the inner structure of the cowling will be visible to some degree.
According to new research ( Thank you Bernhard 🙂 ) Corrected tailwheel forward struts

Interesting subject! what do you mean with "short version"? Was there also a longer prototype?

Thanks Eric, I do not know the exact story, but the proto obviously crashed in 1940, resulting at least in wider Prop blades and a slightly elongated fuselage in front of the wingroots. Bernhard is going ro build the long version

Ah yes I see it on the boxart of the kit you're using, the engine moved more to the front. Following 👍

Great work on a subject with beautiful lines 👍 Much more elegant than my ugly biplanes!

Finally the second half of the mini groupbuild : Pre crash configuration of Voughts Corsair prototype. Fuselage is slightly shorter, and the exhaust stacks have a different layout.
