Got the trash and old building materials hauled away. Vacuumed it out and cleaned everything. Hung up some old leftover peg board and drywall and it's starting to look like a useable space. Will hang some lights up next and get a spray booth installed. Then perhaps I can add airbrushing to my repertoire.

Thanks all. Bughunter, I sure hope I love it. I thought this building presented a good opportunity to have the space to learn some more skills. I can fit a good sized spray booth on the workbench directly in front of a window for the vent and there is a shelf under the bench I can use for the compressor. Exposed beams overhead should make hanging a few more lights easy enough. Then it'll be just practice and experimenting.

I'm sure that when you start airbrushing, you will not want anything else.
With that amount of space who needs a spray booth 😄
Enjoy it 😉

I have a feeling your vife helped you clear out this space
Its great to see that she seports what you do
In the time I have followed you you have gone fare
Now I think your builds will have another boost
Fantastic vife
And Fantastic new space for a new beginning
Maybe one day we will see a build from your vife

Rui Thank you!
Jv, you are 100% correct. She helped every step of the way. And she's always supportive of the my hobby. I am very lucky. I've tried to get her into a build herself but no luck yet

I've tried justifying it to my wife, but arguing with stubborn Russian woman I found puts me on the losing side more than once, between my Mustangs, model kits, baseball cards, Cold War memorabilia and guns, I just found it's easier to just to collect sooooooo much stuff she doesn't know what old and what's recently added (yet to find a way to sneak in another Mustang though) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I think I get away with a lot by using the same strategy. She isn't a model builder, or very interested in guns. So those I can buy more of and sneak past the radar. Because she doesn't know what I've got. However If I drug home another square body Chevy pickup or a muscle car project I think she might flip. Good luck with another Mustang, Bob.
Jv, you're right of course. I couldn't do it without her.

New lights hung and the paint booth was delivered today. Got that set up. Just need to get to the store (when it's not -30 windchill) and get a vent hose and set that up. Almost ready to do some work out here. I am looking forward to it.

Having a deep work bench is nice especially if you also use an air extractor, because the extractor itself will take up a lot of the depth of the space. Nice to see proper ceiling lighting as well for the room.
I sort of dream of having a workspace with no less than 5 IKEA work tables. 🙂 For rotating projects.

And the more workbench space you can have the better.

That's a huge space, mate! Set aside, an area, for drying. My only concern is dust dropping on your new paint jobs, so get yourself a large clear tub and use that to put over your fresh paint, while it dries. One thing I've found, is my booth also sucks in other things, from outside. For example cat hairs, off my clothes, and fabric fibres. We've all fell victim to it, at some point, and it's bloody frustrating! Keep safe over there dude, in that storm. Hopefully things will warm up, next week?

Thanks Bozzer! I already go the clear tub route because of pets and our house is an 1870 farmhouse. There's 150 odd years of dust accumulation anywhere I go. As far as the storm goes we've lost power once, had the kitchen sink freeze despite being dripped and the washer. Got space heaters going in crawl spaces to try to combat that. Next week should be better. Hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Nice shed. I built a 10'x12' metal shed last summer. It will never be used for painting due to ZERO climate control. Like Bozzer, I would be concerned about dust getting in your paint. I recommend you get a hygrometer/thermometer to leave in the space. That way you know in advance if the temperature is in range and if the humidity is below 50%. It will save you the aggravation of your glossy paint jobs from "blushing" (assuming you are solvent based paint).

Indeed Bill, I already have one of those, possibly that exact one. From my old space. I put it in my spray booth so I know exactly where I'm at where I'm painting. My old painting space was not climate controlled either, and dust and pet hair has always been an issue. Just recently sprayed my first couple of things out in the new paint space. The paint is stored on climate control so it is warm. Space heater going on the shop meant I was about 62 degrees F and 48% humidity when I sprayed. Everything laid down really nice. Body gets painted and then sealed in a tote to combat the dust. I have had to do that anyway, so nothing new there. It then gets carried inside to dry in the warmth. Not ideal, but better than my old situation. That was a body clear coated and a body put into primer and both have turned out well.

😂😂😂 I do most of my building out in the open at the dining room table. The wife likes for me to be hanging around, you know, I'm case she needs something and doesn't want to get up. 🤣 Anything I'm working on gets put into a hutch so it doesn't get devoured by a cat.

Added some photos of my process. And my thermometer doohickey that tells me if I can paint or not. One photo of the largely completed setup showing the new air compressor and location and a couple of my painting process. Stuff moves from the climate monitored painting area directly into the tote after painting. I've been doing this for awhile because where I used to paint was very dusty and this new area is very dusty. But it works for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of Kyle's Kut and Chop Shop? I'm also still very envious of the space. I think my new place is going to be 10' x 10' with a U shaped bench. Underneath storage, display shelving down one side, paint booth and 3D printer at the end, and work area on the opposite side. My only issue is natural light, which will come from a window or windows, on the very opposite end of the spray booth. But I figured that 4 x 2' x 2' LED panel lights, would be more than adequate for lighting up the space. I may install a fan this time though, to help with the crazy summers that we've been having recently? Aircon isn't really an option yet, because that would require it's own dedicated supply, and that creates a whole new problem. But, where there's a will 😉

Indeed Bill, fully decking it out with insulation and climate control and all would be the ultimate goal. Bozzer that sounds like it would be a very nice work space. This remains just a hobby and one I already spend far too much on. 😂. The other issue is electrical, as this building runs off just one breaker from the main panel. Ideal I'd also get this it's own electrical supply and panel and then I'd really be cooking with gas. But financially, a project like finishing this building out and running a new box to it aren't feasible right now. Works well for what I need it for. Maybe I will update it more in future.

Kyle, simply by replacing the lights with Led fittings, you will be reducing the load on that circuit. Those old fittings have a ballast inside, that eats electric. If you can send me a picture of the fusebox and tell me what cable is supplying it, I can tell you what you can safely draw from it? No point having an electrician on your posts, if you can't ask for some information? 😉

Ah an electrician! So is my father-in-law. I had a talk with him while I was working on this project. Everything is ran off of one 15 amp circuit breaker on the main panel. So we do have some loss as the cable must needs travel from the main panel outside and to this building. All lights were changed out to LEDs to draw the least amount of power. Runs my fan and air compressor without issue at all.

15A is enough for now. If you get all your electrical apparatus running at once and ask him to check the draw with his ammeter, that will give you a better indicator of how close to the 15A, you are. Try to avoid things like electric heaters and coffee machines, etc and you should be ok. I ran a big cable from the house, to my first outbuilding, then came from there, to my cave. The new cave is gonna be right next to that building, so I'll come from there again. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Yes Lex, the company is nice and normally the only thing mine will destroy is maybe squashing a box top or something.
Roland, thank you. I really didn't like the look of any of those plastic ones you see. This spray booth is decidedly not cheap. However, I build enough that I wanted something permanent and not to have to worry about, so the cost was justified to me.

Old outbuilding on our property that was mostly used to store junk. Although my father attempted briefly to turn it into a workshop. It’s our place now so I am attempting to turn it into a useable paint shop so I can move the nasty chemicals and fumes outside.
