Building the Fairey Gannet COD.4
The COD version had no retractable radar and used the weapons bay to transport cargo. So the fuselage insert for the radome was filled.
My project inventory plus some references. I got the Antonov postcard from the Dutch modelshop where I had ordered the decals.
The cockpits are quite heavy on PE.
I annealed the PE for the exhausts over a spirit flame to ease rolling it. I was quite happy both with its pliability and the resulting colour and surface texture.
And test fit into the fuselage.
Before / after.
Same as the wings.
The interior is complete.
I had to divert from instructions re the props. In the end, I glued them and then sanded them flush using my low-rpm / negligible torque Dremeloid.
After sanding.
And after painting and assembly. Tricky, as each blade needed to be adjusted.
The Gannet is a notorious tailsitter, and I crammed my model with all the weights I could find.
The Eduard masks again helped a lot in building the model.
Preshading
And after painting. Prior to decaling, I did some weathering and accentuating with artist´s oils.
Days of fun decaling, but each stencil made a difference.

Album info
I built this model for my collection of aircraft from HMS Ark Royal IV´s late airgroup. I sued the CTA decal sheet and the Trumpeter kit of the AS - version, plus the Eduard BigEd PE/masks.
