Unboxing the kit, the moulding looks really nice

Album image #2
Super interior detail for its age … not that any of this will be visible!

Album image #3
More detailed cockpit than one may expect for the age of the kit

Album image #4
I added seat belts though doubt you’d see them when the glass is fitted

Album image #5
A lot of tape was required during the build to get the multiple sections which make up the fuselage to fit.

Album image #6
Filler was required where the fuselage meets the tail

Album image #7
Wings attached, not easy when they have no locating pins. For one side I used traditional glue, by the time I got to the other, I decided to reach for the super glue .. the fit is good, there’s just no way to hold the two pieces together!

Album image #8
Interesting glazing requiring quite a bit of masking tape

Album image #9
Luftwaffe light blue for the underside

Album image #10
These engines are a real challenge to construct.

Album image #11
All over coat of white primer. Several coats were required to cover that corrugated surface.

Album image #12
Fitting the engines was as challenging as they were to build. I fear I’ve finished them with the exhaust pipes a little too high in the cowlings. I’ll have to place the squadron badge on the nose rather than engines, but this was a done thing, so I have no issue with that.

Album image #13
Using the plans, I’m using a pencil to mark the camouflage design and brush to finish the painting

Album image #14
That’s the camouflage added with two brush coats of Luftwaffe green

This kit comes with no upper wing decals. So I cut out the larger fuselage set of crosses for the wings, replacing them with a smaller set from my stash.

Album image #17
Having to fix the fuselage decal in three parts was fortuitous as it’s so thin that it would have been disastrous to have attempted in one piece

Album image #18
Aerials fitted the kit is more or less complete

Album image #19
Aerials fitted and a little light weathering added

I applied Flory wash of grey to make it a little less model like. I just hope I’ve not overdone it.

I like the alternative position for the squadron markings.

I have a question. Isn't camo actually worn white left over from winter? Also, how did the build go? How do the details fit? the die is old but any of the heller dies are very good despite the time, is this one of them? Apparently there were a lot of questions. 🙂

That's the build complete. If interested, please see my comments on how this went in my Album 😊

Album info

My second commission for a Luftwaffe scale model collector. The requirement is for a winter camouflaged Ju-52 which the Heller kit seemed a perfect fit.
