If still relevant.
Pic 43-45. Before gluing the fuselage roof to the lower part, I glued 2 spacers from sprue scraps between the walls.
Pic 46 and 47.
I simply cut off the inner side of the hood wall, leaving the outer side untouched, achieving a tight fit along the outer surface. And I puttyed a little bit on the front of the hood.

It seems like hawk graphics is closed down 🙁 . Anyone have any recommendations for how I can get like, a custom print of waterslide decals to replicate the sets they sold?

The web site is still reachable and so not mention a close down, but I have not checked phon number or email. But yes, the newest decals marked with "NEW" are from 2012.
May be you can find a mate with the set in stash to do a high resolution scan for a print? The quality will not be same I guess and white is not easy to print.

I had good luck with stsdecals.com - if you send them a scan of what you want, they can print them. The ones I ordered were thin and strong.

Thank you all for the feedback and support! I really loved building this kit, and I loved all the details of the OHP class that I learned in the process. This kit really was an amazing way to get into modeling.

First three day weekend I've had in a while that's not full of stressful tasks, so what do I decide to do? Clean the basement so I can set up a new workbench. Amazing choice NLAWS, your commitment to not just relaxing remains unchallenged.

One nice thing about having a British mother in law is that apparently she just... Has airfix kits lying around? Came home from a late shift the other day and there was just a BAe Hawk 1:72 kit sitting on the counter??!?

First hour spent getting the hang of airbrushing! Wife really must love me cuz she got me a compressor, spray booth and airbrush for my birthday! Used vallejo gray primer to practice on some small parts, but seem to have spent most of it priming my fingertips! X0 regardless, I can already see how this is a game changer, so excited to learn this new skill!

How is your first experience with an airbrush going? It can be quite frustrating to start with but well worth it in the end. I found Tamiya acrylic the easiest paint to spray, with Vallejo a little less easy, Revell a lot less easy and Humbrol acrylic impossible.
Hope you get the hang of it.

It seems to be going well! learning the different pressures and thinning consistencies is difficult but its all part of the process, and I'm definitely starting to understand how much you need to keep the brush moving and not hold on one spot. So far I've used some Tamiya lacquer and some Vallejo primer, but im going to be using more tamiya acrylic soon! Thank you for the encouragement!

Masking Advice?
Does anyone have any advice for how to get your masks secured? I've been having a lot of trouble with colors bleeding under the masks, even when ive tried to be careful about pressing the masks down as tight as possible. I'm brush painting, if that's a factor.

If you're going for the paint-the-edge-shut method, you'll want to cut the tape loose after painting, instead of just ripping it off.

Update: At some point, the American OHPs were refitted from the weird curved strut split deck boat launch with overhead davit to a (possibly 2-ton) crane davit that sits to the rear of the ships boat on the raised deck. The raised deck also appears to have been unified in that refit, with the weird curved strut completely removed and the gap decked over. Unfortunately, the older davit appears to have exclusively used a whaleboat ships boat, and the new style uses the RHIB. The kit, however, uses the old style overhead davit and split deck, but includes the refit RHIB. So, I'm considering either buying a 1:350 scale whaleboat (still need to confirm what model boat it was) or use spare polystyrene board to unify the raised decks and scratch build the crane style Davit.
