This will be my next big long term project. I want to try my hand at creating a custom Lowrider car with all the bells and whistles. Since I have very little experience in the whole lowrider scene, I need to research the customs and traditions of the culture. I guess the biggest one being the paint job that is one of the most important thing in a lowrider maybe besides the hydraulics. I have brainstormed the following tasks,

1. Look up El Camino lowriders for ideas and inspiration.
2. Research lowrider aesthetics - Interior, suspension, hydraulics, extras, rims, ride height.
3. Look into lowrider paintjobs, specifically what is the process to paint a lowrider. What are the techniques, colors, candies, pearl, etc.

Once I have completed my research and I a m ready to start building, these are the following tasks,

1. Figure out the stance of the car.
2. Figure out the paint scheme of the lowrider.
3. Figure out what components I want to include.
4. Figure out which parts will be chromed.
5. Figure out the layout of the paint scheme.
6. Create the parts list - Which parts will be chromed, which parts will be painted per the scheme, and which parts will be painted the same color.
7. What engine aftermarket parts will I buy
8. Look into lacework and pinstriping.
9. Look into pinstriping tape, where do you buy it.

After painting the LBWK Lamborghini Aventador using the Splash Paints Rosso Bia color, I think it would be a good idea to use the tint coat in different amounts of coats to create the lowrider paint job. As a base color I need to decide between a silve base or a gold base. I will be testing the colors and tint coats with plastic spoons.

On another note, I will be sanding the all the parts at the conference in San Antonio.

All the parts have been sanded, I still need to scribe the panel lines on the body but I'm working on lowering the stance on the car even more, I just don't like the way that it looks out of the box.

Also, I am going to switch to the stock seats instead of the lowrider version, I think they look better.

I added the '72 Chevrolet Racer's Wedge to the El Camino project because I want to do a lowrider duo.

I'm going to start with this project for 2024 instead of continuing with the more involved projects like the Coca Cola truck or the Porsche. Kinda want to ease in into the hobby again, have been on pause since the birth of my daughter but now that things have calmed down a bit I want to start back up again.
I was thinking of creating a lowrider series by having the 1934 Ford Pickup Custom version, the 1978 Chevy El Camino Lowrider version, and the 1972 Chevrolet Racer's Wedge, with the same paint scheme. I have never done something like this and much less having them in lowrider type version, so I thought it would be a good challenge.
I've been researching how the lowrider paint style is done, but it looks way more complicated than I thought it was going to be. I'm still deciding on the color scheme, right now I'm aiming towards a red/orange/gold color scheme but I'm still deciding.
Another thing that I'm still unsure about is to whether work on all three models at the same time or work on one model at a time, I'll probably paint the bodies of all three models at the same time as to not mess up the paint scheme from one model to the another.

If you're going to build a truck, build a semi? By the time you're done, you'll already have the next one ordered 😉

The Coca Cola truck is actually a semi, never done a semi before and since I'm a big fan of Coca Cola I thought it would be a good project to work on. The only thing is that the kit has so many issues, there's flashing to last me a lifetime, warped parts, fitment issues, I know that's part of the fun but since I'm coming back into the hobby I didn't want to come into a project that I know is going to be frustrating. The Coca Cola project is in the pipeline that's for sure.

Unfortunately, I've not built my GMC yet. However, that's a very old tooling. If you're prepared to get another semi, may I suggest the International 4070A cabover? It's a retool and it's very sharp in detail and practically zero flash? Ideal for you. All AMT kits have issues, but like you said, it's part of the fun. And of course, if you run into problems, just post them on here? There's always plenty of advice and help, on Scalemates. Enjoy your build, and if you start your semi, be sure to add some progress pictures. It's always great to see 10 wheelers 🙂
