I didn't ask her, she spotted what I was doing and told me it needs to be pink! Can't disagree with that hahaha. She's quite handy with Alan the Airbrush already, I think I'll buy her some cheap 1:72 planes to have a go with on her own for starters.

Hi nikfrost.
Just 1, Ross Jackal.
But as I have deviated on the colour scheme, I may make one up. Hoping to find some rub on letters at the hobby shop.
Any name suggestions? (Question open to all of course 🙂 )
Have a good day.

Dear friends, thank you for your interest. I am a bit curious myself how this model will turn out - I have read some pretty nasty things about it in reviews, but I am not sure it's so bad. It certainly looks very intricately designed, not your usual shake 'n' bake kit for sure.

I must say, I am pretty impressed with this kit so far. At first sight it looked like an Amodel kit, but everything is very cleverly designed and all parts fits together beautifully without any problems. The only gripe I have is with the plastic itself - it's very soft and stretchy and definitely does not like to be sanded.

At first sight it looked like an Amodel kit, but everything is very cleverly designed and the parts almost fall together by themselves without any problems. The only gripe I have is with the plastic itself - it's very soft and kind of stretchy, and all sanding needs to be followed by polishing to result in a smooth surface.

Do you mean to see for each kit the list of paints which are written in the instructions?

This sounds nice.
I guess a second best would be a digital copy of the build instructions in pdf format, which sometimes is seen on kits listed on Scalemates. 🙂

my suggestion may make this more complicated but the aircraft are not painted in alclad II, or Tamiya paint but according to a standard such as FS595 or BS. In addition, there are often agreed paint schemes such as SIOP, SEA or "lizzard scheme".
It would be very nice to have a section on real-life paint schemes with their official referene and standardised paint references, and from there a link to the various model paints.
Although I fear this would be a mamoth task.

Check here.... our goal/hope was that after filling X amounts of decal options the amount of variants would stagnate. And we could use this as "Popular" schemes/colors. It has been a while since I last check if I can merge similar entries....
SEA Camouflage FS34102 FS34079 FS30219 FS36622
Lizard Scheme FS34079 FS30140 FS30279 FS36251
Color matches an FS code => show related paint schemes having that FScode (+name +other colors)
McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phant..Killer (Fujimi 7A-G12, 1:72)
I will recheck if based on the massive data you all entered can be done to extract something interesting.

Impressive!!! there is still a lot more to this site than what I know and have seen. Fantastic how you can make the data itself do the heavy crunching instead of manual labour.
Still, we should be able to go from FS or BS numbers or ... to Humbrol, Tamiya numbers ...
I guess it would not be that hard to make a reference table?

We have colorcodes for FS colors as well as colorcodes for color cans. If the values are close enough we fan do the match automatically

This is a very nice feature indeed. Would it be possible to have filters (by paint brand and paint type, mostly) in the Color page ?
Also, when I click on the My tab (All/My), there are no results even if one of the paints listed below is in my stash. Is that a bug ?

The "My" should show the paint ranges you have listed on your profile (in your case: Model Master Humbrol Tamiya Testors MIG Productions)
can you let me know which color you looked at?

On top of the screen we have a wide band in the "exact color" and under that we have the colors offered by the different brands that sometimes deviate a bit from the correct color.
Would it be possible to give a small rectancle left of the brand colors with the exact color so we can compare each one of them with the exact color?

Hi Michael! I bought the LEDs from Amazon and strung them together on my own. I used a total of 6 parallel circuits with each one drawing about 9V.
I used a rechargeable 9V from Amazon - EBL USB Rechargeable 9V Lithium Batteries - 5400mWh Long Lasting LI-ion Batteries with Micro Charging Cable - and ran a Micro-USB extender to the top of the cargo bay so I can seal the kit, and recharge it later. Having put in close to 40 hours on this kit, I wanted the lighting to last. 😜

Looking really good Capt. 🫡. I had exactly the same issues with the landing gear.... the 'strut' just didn't want to glue and ended up snapping, I pushed a pin up through it to try and strengthen it but it's still really wonky. Tempted to have a go at the AMT kit to see if that's any better?

Lovely stuff. The innards look fantastic with the black basing. Loving the mix of alloys to the exterior and the heat wear on re entry is inspired and something I completely missed that on mine.

Thanks everyone! I learned a LOT from everyone posting their builds on these forums - so I'll be passing the credits to everyone.
@Gareth - from what I can see, the AMT looks lacking on the interior details, but the engines are made to be lit up in flight mode. Didn't see a build with the landing struts.
@Gary - the idea of the re-entry staining came to me when I just happened to see the burnt metallic paint on the rack! I wouldn't have thought of it otherwise. 🤔
@Finn - thank you! But I have a long ways to go to your mad diorama skills!
@Giannis - I had some challenges with the metallics - the Xtreme Titanium looked too "Plastic" to me, so I had to apply a thinned down Polished aluminum to make it shine better.
One thing I forgot to mention is the need to sand down the engine nacelles - some spots were really rough / pebbly - so sanding it down prior to laying down the metallics will save you pain and suffering later 😀

Stick a fork in it, this one's done. I'll update this later when I get around to building a base for it with some figures. This was a decent kit, but with a little more thought and effort, Revell could have made this a really cracking kit. I would definitely recommend this kit, but you will need a lot of patience when tackling the landing gears and ramps - on top of the numerous kit defects, but hey, if I can build it, anyone can! 😀

Thank you Bernd. Yes indeed, it's not the easier way. Comparing to this kit, a Classic Airframes (or equivalent) looks like to a Tamiya 😁 But it's the only game in towm to realise this beautiful and almost confidential plane. I knew in advance it would have been a hard and long process, but also a good opportunity to push my limits. Sorry for the stagnation of the work but I'm very often far away from home for my job at the moment. Anyway, finishing this kit is part of the New Year's resolutions 🙂

Hello Moreno, thank you for your interest. I havn't mentioned it but this project is unfortunately on standby. Indeed, I have to move a lot far from home for my job at the moment and have no time for modeling. But I don't give up and plan to be back on track in a near future. Ideally, I would like to finish it before the end of the year, among other kits. I can't only focus on it to avoid becoming crazy 😁

Bonjour Franck.

Good Luck with the build Frank, hope it's not as difficult as my Heller MB 174. Bon Chance. 👍🥸👍

Thank you Cuajete and Mark for your kind comments. Unfortunately for me, even if the Heller MB 174 kit is around twenty years older, it's still much easier to build. With a Mach 2 kit, nothing goes well and everything is brute. But I accepted the mission 🙃🥴

Rather apt Olivier, considering I'm 62. Two stubborn geriatrics trying to reach a consensus. 🤣🤟🤣🤘🥸👍🤣

Here's a question for you, mates.
What styrene kit would you like to see on the market that has never been done before and what scale?
Here's a shortlist of my thoughts:
1 - 1:350 Gneisenau (Trumpeter announced one a few years back, but it's never materialised)
2 - 1:35 Alvis Stalwart (one of the most iconic post-war British Army vehicles. Amazed it's never been done)
3 - 1:24 Oldsmobile Delta 88 (Ash's car from the Evil Dead franchise)
What's on your would-like-to-see list?

Its been done, but not in 1/48...C-141B. Also a good CH-3 in 1/48.
As for never been done at all, I cant think of any.

I have a resin-stalwart on the workbench. A horror kit. It really is time for a modern kit.
I wish a Puma-Helicopter in 48. 😉

Coming together, all the major engine work is finished. Engine pods still to be glued in place.

Excited to see what you can do with this thing. I love the CH-37 for how unique and ugly they are. Wish someone makes this in 1/48.

Absolutely lovely! It looks almost like a sci-fi vehicle, very cool! The metal mesh was a great idea, where did you get it?

Nice paintwork. Colors look good, I wouldn't worry that's an issue. Can always change the tone with a wash anyway. 👍

Thanks! Yes that is very true. I think after the weathering I don't see the original colours too much..

A true legend! awesome painting, the chipping is just perfectly made for this particular jet, (not an easy task, theres a thin line between realistic used look and repainting the whole thing...)

Extremly nice and awesome details (overpainted insignia for example). Excelent. I'm curious how the phantom will look like in the end.
Is there a photo that you use as a reference?

Thanks for the comments!
Weathering was interesting, it is always difficult to balance realistic and nice looking. I'm glad you like it!
I used pics on the Internet and excellent fundecals instruction
for reference. And my books of course too.

Thanks for the links.
I think the weathering has become great. The aircrafts were partly very weathered during the war.

Stunning looking F-4! 👍
I keep saying to myself that THIS will be the year that I pull my finger out and build one; but it never eventuates. This build has definitely renewed my desire to finally do it. 😉

Wall to wall stencils, but your scratch building skills and eye for the painting and weathering are awesome. Wow!
