Laid down a couple of clearcoats over the base. Did some tidy up, and very thorough clean. Then nervously hit it with the "Candy Apple" clear red.
At the moment looks a bit darker than i wanted, possibly should have had one less coat of the red. Will see how it looks under natural light. But happy so far (apart from some small dust/fluff that always seems to find it's way onto my paint).

I'm using a revell cobra kit to practice the "candy" paint. If I can get it right, I'll do a candy fujimi 1/12 skyline. One thing I learned, if you mix some regular clear with your colored clear it's easier to control the color density. You can slowly build up to the color you want in several light coats.
Polish the colored clear then put a coat of regular clear on top will make it "pop" a bit more.
I used mr hobby deep clear red for my first try and it was way to dark on the first coat.

Thanks guys.
Yeh, i'm only using Tamiya rattle cans. One day i'll make the move to an airbrush....
Have layered up the paint with Silver base, then clear, then the red clear;
TS-76 Mica Silver
TS-13 Clear
TS-74 Clear Red
Will do a light cut/polish and then another coat of plain clear.
Thanks guys.

Sneak-peak of the final body colour with clear coat done. On to detailing next.
Didn't quite get the Candy Apple I was after, even in real-life the red is a bit thick/dark, but still happy with the colour. (Might give it another go on a Dato 510).

Soaked the interior, twice, with the Easy-Off and with lots of scrubbing and sanding managed to get most of the old paint off. Not perfect (couple of small bubbles still on back seat grrr). Also decided to go slightly different direction with colour scheme. Front seats are now a dark burgundy. Still haven't decided on the rear yet or rest of the interior trim.
Found some 3d-printed "drift" spec shifters and hydraulic handbrakes on the fleabay. Prep'd, primed, and black base coat done. Now just need to detail them.

The more shiny the silver layer, the better the candy effect. I did a Gundam with Molotow chrome as the base layer. The colours really pop.
I also learned the hard way that these shiny colours will reveal every imperfection.
I do love the red on your build.

Thanks.
I'm keen to give the 'candy' effect another crack. Will try a different base silver next time, cheers.
So yeh if anything, the colour has come out a nice deep red. And imperfections, lets just say you won't see any photos of the roof. It's not too bad, but you can see some inconsistency in the colour.

Hi! Wonderful project - good luck and hope to see pictures of your build here. If you don`t plan on using the RNoAF Tiger decals, I am interested in buying them.
Cheers,
John

I don't know how you do it. As per usual my teenage self is going through another phase, or at least i hope it is a phase. Building models hasn't been as fun as it used to be recently. Sure i still enjoy it but its not the same. Knowing most of you on this site have at least been building for more than 5 years so i wanted to ask. How do you still find enjoyment in model building after all these years?

By taking regular breaks from it! I haven't been at the bench for two months, but I'll be back when I feel like doing it again.

Id also take a break but building models is one of the only things i can do in the city. I cant go mountain biking, i dont have any friends, im not wealthy enough to buy drones and im not old enough to get drunk and/or laid. Building models is one of the only things i can do to entertain myself other than mindlessly watching tv or crying myself to sleep because of the countless deaths ive witnessed ive got nothing else to do.

I tell you, it sort of ceases to be fun when you have ADS or Advanced Modeler Syndrome 😄, because you over-plan, over-analyze and start over-buying accessories and aftermarket parts and it makes finishing a kit very difficult.

It's perfectly normal to drift from one interest to another Kesa, particularly at your age, as you need to try different things to see what you enjoy the most. There is nothing wrong if that turns out to be something other than modelling. In fact it's good to broaden your interests and not stick to one thing.
I suspect that the majority of the adult modellers on here had a long gap between their childhood and when they returned to it later in life, so we have had a chance to experience other pastimes. Also most adults may only have an hour or so to stick bits of plastic together each day and are less likely to to get bored with it as a result.

Bob, It has been disturbing me too. That is why I am psyching my self up for a batch of Ford builds. Your Mustang hood is on the left wall and the Ford logo is in the center if you hadn't noticed.

I'm gonna keep coming back to this. There's so much detail, it's too much to take in, at once! Many congratulations Bill, this is definitely something to be proud of!

I decided to upgrade my diorama with some LED lighting to improve my pictures of future builds.
I made a quickie mock up to see how they would work. While bright enough, I learned that I need to have some of them near the front edge to make the foreground light the viewer's side of any vehicles inside.

Thanks guys. The test only used 16 of 20 of the fixtures. I ordered some 6-32 mounting hardware last night and cut my lid this morning. I think I will need a bit of angle aluminum to stiffen the front edge and provide positive locating of the sides. Meanwhile, back to finishing up my Mustangs.

My hardware came so I got right to installing the LEDs onto the "ceiling". I soldered everything to keep from having issues. The lights are somewhat a "cool white" as opposed to a warm white. Live viewing it looks pretty good. For photos I think I still need some foreground lights. My super shiny floor may force me to add some sort of light diffuser like parchment paper.

Absolutely Stunning Bill! I was thinking about buying one of those old racing trailers - I see you probably used the parts but as a trailer what do you think?

I have two of the racing trailers. One is the Ernie Irvan one and one is the Bill Elliot one. Yes I did steal some of the interior parts for my diorama. My plan (way down the road) is to build one with all the goodies and one closed up. I want to set them up as two nostalgic front engine dragster haulers.
