As I'm basically an old man now, some old man modelling. 1/24 ancient 80s Takara VOTOMS Scopedog, updated by Wave. The legs and feet I'm happy with, but I'm adding card to the bottom of the body, to raise its waist, and I'll be shortening the arms slightly too.

Rusty old death tub. Love the fact that VOTOMS AT's are basically futuristic Sherman Tanks, and as vulnerable as them. Death traps.

Coming along nice and rustily, finally getting this done after ten years in the box. Wish I'd picked up more 1/24 VOTOMS kits when I had the chance, luckily I've got two 1/20's and about eleven 1/35 AT's to still make.

Getting there, Rusty old one man tank look. This is just the first layer of paint on the primer. Filled up the voids on top of the knees, started to add the arms, cast texture made with putty on the shoulder pads. Finished inside of cockpit lid. Old school fun.

Hello, Greg. I know there's a Mi-1M kit in 1/72nd scale. Unfortunately, only this and a rather old kit from Special Hobby exists in 1/48 scale. In addition, this kit is an older version of the Mi-1A, which is different from the upgraded version of the Mi-1M. It has a different nose shape, different cockpit glazing and other minor changes. And since I decided to build the upgraded version of the Mi-1M, I will not avoid modifications to the kit.
To give you a better idea of the extent of the modifications to the kit, I've included a picture with the differences between the Mi-1A and Mi-1M versions color coded.

I used to buy ABC magazine regularly as a kid and eagerly awaited each new issue 🙂. I assume your mention of ABC magazine refers to the occasional modeling tutorial section.
@gorby, @Greg Baker
It's not too difficult to make new transparent parts by stretching warmed transparent foil over a pre-made template. Preparing the template is the most work. Stretching the warmed foil onto the template is just a routine that anyone can do after a few attempts.

I want to try to use the sandwich construction in the production of new glass parts for the coptics. So I made (using the same process as the transparent parts) parts out of white plastic sheeting. These parts will have holes cut out for the windows. The transparent part will then be inserted between these two parts. The white outer and inner parts will form the embossed framing of the transparent part.

I came back from vacation and it started to rain. Ideal conditions for modelling. 🙂
So I'm back and continuing to work on the model. I need to glue the finished nose to the glued fuselage so the cockpit overlay fits exactly. That determines the workflow. First I have to finish the nose and the inside of the fuselage and glue all the parts that need to be glued to the fuselage halves from the inside. After gluing the fuselage halves together, I would no longer be able to get to these parts (or only with great difficulty).
Photos of the work progress will be coming soon.

I glued several parts to both halves of the fuselage. These parts are glued from the inside, so they have to be glued before the fuselage is closed.
I also started working on making new parts for the cockpit.

Mike, thank you for your interest. Welcome aboard!
I've had the idea for this rebuild in my head for a few years now. Mainly because I've been waiting to see if anyone would start making 1:48 scale Mi-1M kits. Unfortunately, to this day, no manufacturer has this kit in their lineup. So I decided not to wait any longer and start building a model from what I have available.
My rebuild is just beginning. Most of the work on the model is yet to be done. I'd also like to try some new techniques that came to mind while planning to build this model.
@Villiers
Thank you for the compliment. I appreciate it very much.

J35J welcome! I hope you like it here.
Bruce, I like a challenge like that. I like to experiment and enjoy thinking of and then implementing ways to improve my model.
I appreciate your concern for my safety. I live in a town in the highlands that wasn't badly affected by the floods. Only the river that runs through our town has increased flow, but it hasn't spilled out of its bed. Moreover, our house is 80 metres above the river, so even if the river had spilled out of its bed, it would certainly not have reached our house.

I'm struggling with time rather than the model at the moment. At least I managed to draw a new dashboard. After printing it in scale (1/48) on photo paper I will use it instead of the kit part.

I am attaching a photo of a test black and white print of the dashboard after all the modifications are complete. I will print the dashboard for the model in color later.

Villiers, the completion of the fuselage is only temporary at this time. It's only to modify the shape of the transparent cockpit cover.
Once the cockpit cover is the correct shape, I will take the fuselage nose down again to continue work on the cockpit interior.

I'm have a go at riveting, but going freehand as at this scale using tape was taking so long. I also not sure how much they will stand out on finish kit, but with the wonky line in parts they will probably bee seen from mars 🤣

#Skyhiker I found the fit to be good, I had a very slight gap at the front but think that was as much to do with me and the fitting of the pit (not the clearest instructions there). Every thing else was fine and the canopy was a good fit, I did change order of build slightly with the tail section I glued the rear piece to the body first then added the tail (after I'd added the stabilisers/rudders) this made more sense than the instructions 😁

Only issue I have with this kit are the decals. While they look great and are in perfect register, they have a large amount of film edging and are both thick and delicate at the same time🤪
Having a hard time getting them to settle into the panel lines etc. I usually just need to use micro sol but even ultimate extra strong is not have much effect. Going to have to wait till I get some Tamiya fixer, strong and extra strong hopefully one of these will help 🤞

You should be ok with the medium one with Airfix decals,
I like a mix of Water in with the markfix...seems to keep the decal floating longer.
I did the teeth on my p40 this way.
If they started getting bit sicky...l would add bit more water....keep it floating.
Wouldn't like to do shark teeth with HB decals 🤔🤣.... The lightning ⚡ strike on my mig-15 just fell apart with hardly any working.
Good luck with it ..look forward to seeing 😃👍👍

Cheers for advice #Mr D. Afraid this set of decals were unaffected by all solutions but the mark fit super strong did have some effect. To make head way I found I needed to add the solution then after a few seconds apply hot air from a hairdryer to 'shrink wrap' the decal. These have to be the worst decals I've come across..
I recommend anyone doing this kit to source a set of decals rather than use those provided, they are not for beginners that's for sure. I hope the carrier film will disappear under a gloss coat but I didn't want to risk it so I've only applied the larger decals the smaller ones while add great detail if cartograf here they are 90% carrier film.

#Skyhiker that's idea but life's too short for the amount there is, the size of the decal that's left will look like small black dots everywhere (especially the fuselage rib numbers 🤪); would be ok in 48 but too much in 72. Also I'm probably going to much it all up when I apply the winter white wash 😆

I built this about 20 years ago Guy as a gift for a WW2 Horsa pilot who was a friend of my wife's family. He'd flown Horsas into Normandy and Arnhem. He loved the model and it sat in his living room for the rest of his days. It's a nice kit as I recall.

This looks great! Decals look like painted on.
I really should start sanding down the gloss coat/decals like you did. In your comment you've written that no polishing is necessary. Will you just apply snew gloss coat over top after cleaning it a bit more?

Thanks Robin.
Llivery of this car is matt 😉 the reason for sanding is that removing the step in the decal, even on a matte surface, creates a smoother curved surface.

Nice upgrade to the interior on this kit Guillaume. The 1/48th Trumpeter kit has a few scale errors in it (if you choose to attempt to fix these... or not) There is a bit of detail on my build of this kit at: flypastrush.com/post..-s-m-79-ii-sparviero - Good luck with the build 🙂

Hello Guy,
You may try fishing wire "UNI-Caenis 20 Den Black" for your next antennas wire : it is like spandex, has some elasticity, and doesn't need to be stretched so mast doesn't bend.
It is also very convincing for 1/72 : i can't see it if i don't wear my glasses...
Fine work !

Very nice! I would like some of the multi-engine Japanese aircraft on my shelf, but I have a lot of things to build before that. How old were the Hasagawa decals you used here? At what age would you be concerned about using older Hasagawa decals?
