I built that Pak 40 when I was a kid. It is a nice kit with figures and shell casings and stuff. It is fun to paint the uniforms on the little dudes. I left the gun itself in grey plastic and just painted the details.

Insulation foam board is good to use as the base for a diorama and you often see offcuts in skips. You might need to ask first as some people get arsey when you take things out their skip (why, it's bloody rubbish?). Also it is possible to use real soil as soil in a dio, although you would need to cook it in a microwave or cooker and whoever is responsible for those items may not be too happy about it. Probably best to ask first with that as well.
You need to sieve the soil. This step can be messy.
Cook it in briefly to dry it and kill the microbes (to stop it smelling). Best to use cleaned takeaway metal foil containers.
Mix it with PVA glue and spread it on your dio. This step can be very, very messy.
I've used it a few times in various dioramas and it works well. Best of all, it comes soil coloured. 🙂

Capt: for this one I went looking for something Norwegian, because that was the subject of the GB for Jens. It had to be something I'd be able to scratch build (as I was too tight to open my wallet to buy something. 😄 ). Normally it's because I just stumble on an interesting picture. 🙂

They said to paint interior charcoal black like on the FW-190.
But l checked n the Romanian lAR interior was grey/blue.
Engine building next 6 parts deal.

A small amount of the wing is seen through bottom of cockpit, the HB instructions didn't mention painting it first!!
But the fit of the model be ok so far.

Hi, Yes lve used it alot and holds up really well , l find the fillers a bit messy and more trouble than it's worth on small gaps.
You do need to allow overnight drying with it for best sanding results.

Are you using workable tracks with kit?

I just took a look at the instructions, and they seem OK. Use the jig that Meng gives you to ensure the links are lined up correctly and insert the pins like the instructions tell you, and I suspect it will be fairly painless. At least you won't have to glue a whole bunch of parts together for each link.

My tip would be to do this in stages while you're working on the rest of the model: a bit now, a bit later, etc. If you wait until the rest of the model is finished and "have to" do the whole track at once, you'll probably get bored senseless 🙂

Mick - yes, using the tracks that were in the kit.

Jakko - that sounds like a reasonable idea. I'm quite far along the construction of the lower hull, will build some links of the tracks.

The way I normally do this is to put links together until I get bored with the job, then put them aside again and continue later 🙂 I would also advise to first clean up all the links and put them in a container, rather than cleaning up some and putting them together, then cleaning up some more, etc.
