Another masterpiece - the mottling is very well done, restrained and not over the top.

Album info

My hobby crew voted to do a group build with a theme of "night-fighters" without any restrictions on specific subject, or scale. So this is my first in a row of contributions to this topic.

Kommando Welter was the first and only unit to receive examples of the converted 2-seater/trainer Me-262 equipped with radar equipment. This was very much the end game of the WWII and the dramatic depiction of the burning Lancaster in the wake of the antlers-rockin' Schwalbe on the box-art is in the domain of pulp fiction. Most night victories of the Me-262 were indeed scored by the single-seat machines using ground navigation and flood lights to catch their pray. Further more, 4-engine bombers were not the usual targets for German jet-fighters, as the speed differential was too great, making it extremely difficult for a pilot to spot the target, align his approach aim and fire before it was too late.

Hobby Boss kit of the Me-262 is surprisingly affordable, well detailed and free of usual errors. Yes, they love to open every hatch possible, so if you are an enjoyer of buttoned-up look, like me, you'll have "fun" aligning everything in closed position. But apart from that, not much to complain about.
I added few bits in the cockpit, refined few details here and there and replaced the radar antenna array with micro tubes and steel wire. And had a lot of fun painting the camo of course! 😄 More night-fighters to follow...
