And so it begins: coffee on the table on a Sunday morning, and the first pieces of the kit off the sprue.

The kit is amazing, with 386 parts. It won’t be an easy project, but I hope I’ll have fun with it.

This is the target: the “Sevastopol” variant based in Crimea at the Black Sea Fleet. Blue 43.

Top will be Eggplant gray and the belly is the new Flanker camouflage scheme that can be found on the Su-30SM and top camouflage of the Su-35S.

Cockpit interior work ongoing. There are 12 decals in total for the buttons and screens!! ❤️ interior painted with AK Air Superiority Blue, the schematic reference to a gray interior is wrong, so I trusted my reference photos.

The fit is OK but not perfect. After I’ve put the aircraft together I found out that sanding a bit the bottom of the cockpit interior helps a lot get the fit into place.

I’ve got the recommended paints from MRP for SU-30SM and I’m really looking forward to using them.

The model has been primed with Mr.Finishing Surfacer 1500 black on top and Mr.Finishing Surfacer 1500 gray on the belly and nose of the SM.

Started here the long and tedious process of masking and painting the heat resistant covers of the engines.

Here’s what three hours of masking looks like.
I'd recommend not gluing the vertical stabilizers in place, even though I did; it'll make it easier to paint the heat-resistant parts on the underside.

The kit is very nice and I love the decals, they show exactly the 43 blue in my photo posted here. So far I've found a small fitting issue to the front, but if you start slowly and work your way towards the wings it gets into place.

Great looking engines! Your diorama is also shaping up nicely.
The little patch of green really breaks up all the dark colours from the aircraft and the apron as well. 👀 👍

the vertical stabilizers 😄

If silvering appears under the walkways I won't be able to explain it. I primed, sanded down the primer, painted with thin layers and the surface was prepared for the decals. I'm just hoping that the light is strong and that silvering won't show up. Even if it shows, I hope I won't get too bothered by it 🙂
