Hi guys,

This is the venerable Xtrakit/MPM/Special Hobby Gloster Meteor F.8 which has since been superseded by Airfix offering but I had it in stock and I figured "how bad can it be?".

Back in 2006, 18 year old me had been blown away by Brett Green's build on Hyperscale which convinced me to order the kit straight from Hannants.
Well folks, Mr Green makes it look easy.

As a short run first-timer, I wasn't ready for the amount of sanding, cutting, filling and scratch-building needed to get this kit to look passable.

I don't think it's my best effort but I'm glad it's now across the finish line and I'll gladly avoid short-run kits in the future 🙂

Have a great day and happy modelling!

Very nice. Looks like you werent lying when you told me you buy a kit and then spiral out of control buying aftermarket kits 😄

Thanks Kesa. I wouldn't even call this one "out of control", it can get so much worse once resin gets involved 😄

And another exotic scheme from you with the casual flawless metallic finish. It's so easy, right?

I have the Special Hobby Mk8/9. I wasn't aware there is some better offering from Airfix. Is the Airfix trully much better?

Thank you Marius. I haven't build the Airfix kit but people who have build it and the MPM kit all praise the newer british kit.
The MPM kit is pretty good for a short-run kit but suffers from short-run issues.
Trailing edges are thick, there are hardly any locating tabs, some details have to be scratch-built etc. Not a beginner's kit.

Metallic liveries using lacquers really isn't that hard if you ask me. To me, it's easier than trying to replicate a 3 or 4 tones camouflage with accuracy.
On this build, I first airbrushed Mr surfacer 1500, polished it with cloth, then Mr Color GX2 gloss black and finally A-stand (Alclad) White aluminium.
The finish result is very tough and can be manipulated easily.

Amazing job on this one too Clement. Not your everyday Meteor!
In the box, the kit looks okay, but indeed, once you're in the building process, you start to figure out a where the tough spots are.
I remember especially the engine pods…they really took some special care.
Your Meteor looks superb, no trace of a short run kit anymore.
