The A13 Mk I (aka Cruiser Tank Mk III), a design based on the Soviet BT series tank, was selected for production in 1937. An order for 50 was placed and by the onset of WWII, 43 had been delivered and a further 22 followed by December 1939 before giving way to the A13 Mk II which had improved armor and other features. The A13 Mk I was deployed to France in May 1940 with the 1st Armored Division against the German Blitzkrieg. In the end, all were lost or abandoned and the surviving men evacuated by sea. A small number of A13 Mk I's made it to North Africa and Greece in 1941. Again, these would be lost to the Germans.2
