Porsche 911 Carrera 2 (964) - 1989 - Reference pics
Time for a new project. This time the 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 2, also known as the Porsche 964.
This car is the third Porsche 911 generation (in the meantime we know 7 generations).
I wasn't sure about the ride height of this Fujimi model, because the finished model on the box doesn't look ok to me.
So I dryfitted the chassis and body to see what's going on: looks ok to me; probably the model on the box wasn't built properly(?)...
I wasn't 100% convinced by the ride height, so I checked my model against reference pics. I decided that the car sat about 2mm too low.
So I tackled the whole suspension and as a result the car sits 2mm higher, giving a realistic looking opening between the wheel arches and the tires. Compared to the reference pics it's much better!
Now I concentrate on the body. I cut away the moulded Porsche logo which will be replaced, and the moulded door handles.
I also scraped all the panel lines and I sanded off all the ungly moulding seams.
Next I prepared the separate bodyparts (in grey color).
I added small locating pins to the mirrors to make sure they will positioned correctly.
I started to paint the bodywork in aluminium color.
I still wasn't sure about the ride height, so I changed it again. Maybe I'll have to lift the front just a little extra because the car isn't standing straith...
All the Porsche 911 generations will receive the same color in order to be able to appreciate and compare the shapes without distraction of the different colors.
I assembled the 'habitacle', adding some details since it is very basic indeed.
I sprayed the parts which are covered with carpet, with Tenco Proto's 'Scale Fabric'.
The dashboard has been left OOB.
Next I painted the window surroundings flat black.
The straith lines were masked with Tamiya masking tape, the curved lines were done free handed.
I also painted the complete interior flat black.
Once the flat black paint is dry I could do a dry-fit of the Porsche.
The black interior doesn't show a lot of details, which is unfortunate.
But the overall look of the Porsche is quite realistic.
And the main goal of this build is a comparicon of the 7 Porsche 911 generations, so I don't want to distract the spectators...
