Christian - I suppose this is large scale modelling for you after working on those 1:350 scale ships! 😄

Some filling and sanding is already done. Lower wing and wing struts fixed and aligned as well as the landing gear. I hope to find some time to paint the bird the coming weekend.

Yesterday I primed all the parts with Vallejo Light Grey. Today I brushed the underside of wings and fuselage. Vallejo's Model Air 075 Sand is a good match for the underside color. Some more progress soon too. Cheers, Christian

To get a little bit of my HMS Belfast I put out a long forgotten project – Valom's scale 1/144 S.E.5a.
I paint the upper wings and fuselage using Vallejo Model Air Dark Green no. 71012. Wing struts and landing wheel struts are painted dark brown. Tail fin, struts and small details are hand paint. Model is finished now for a coat of future before I will apply the decals and start some color effects to get more depth and highlights.

After I add some effects and darken and highlighting the paintwork the decals are applied on a coat of future. The Z marking was much to big in its dimension and has to be cut in two to reduce the main size. It looks quite ok with no visible gap.

Holy Moly a few days offline and I need some time to take a look to all your amazing and wonderful progress here on Scalemates!!!!
There is a lot of real work to do so I have less time for modelmaking at the moment. To get some feeling of success in modelmaking I finished my RAF SE5a and my Tigercat this weekend. The Tigercat need to be glued to the base once dried completely.
Cheers, Christian

I love it! That paintwork is looking very authentic, brings up the real deal of this plane😉
Question, what did you used for the base? I mean, that white stuff. Also, where did you get these wooden bases?

Thx Edgars, glad you like it🙂
I use FIMO, a plasticine that has to be hardened in the oven when shaped and formed.

Thank you Mike, Martien and Roberto. Glad you like it
@Mike, the Lewis gun and the magazine are tiny PE parts which comes along with the kit. Both parts look three dimensional because they are made of two foldable PE parts.

Hi Christian, yes I have the Hanriot and Spad to collect from my local hobby shop. Building the Fokker DVII but having problems with the lozenge decal.

Thx Christian, glad you like it🙂
@Mike, the Valom decals are sometimes to big and does not fit exactly. For example, I cut the Z on my SE5a into two pieces to fit to the wing.

It has lozenge decals for the wings but they are an odd colour, I had to buy some others but they are a bit narrow.

Edgars, the Valom kit is ok and has some nice decal options. If you'd like to have a more details kit with crisp engraved panel lines you should choose the Platz kit. But here you'll find only Japanese decal options.

P.S. stop crying🙂

Still waiting for some new paint form my Nieuport I start another tiny biplane – RAF S.E. 5a. The kit is short run as well. The plastic parts are ok with some flash. All parts need some dry fit to get them in the correct position. Some PE parts are included for struts, landing gear as well as some parts for the cockpit. Sadly the support for the PE Lewis gun, mounted on the upper wing, is not etched 100%. The main support is missing on the PE fret. Otherwise this is a quite nice kit!
