One of my greatest heroes, who sadly never won an F1 championship, through no fault of his own... He was plauged with mechanical and reliability problems throughout his career... One of his finest hours was at Montjuïc circuit 1969, Chris had inherited the lead after Jochen's crash, he went on to gain a 30 second lead, over the great Sir Jackie. But alas on lap 56 his engine seized...
Gifting the win to Sir Jackie, RIP Chris!!!

Steve. What about Cleremont Ferrand in 1972. Pole position, leading up to halfway before he pitted with a puncture. (No 2 1/2 second pit stops in those days !) came back out and drove like a man on a mission. Finished third and had the fastest lap. Autocourse voted it the drive of the season. French spectators demanded he was with J.Stewart on his parade lap

Oh! yes John...
And there were many more as well;) in defence, I did say, one of...
The reason I said that particular race was, it would've been his first F1 win in 6 years, the taste of that win must've been so strong. Jackie Stewart is no back marker, he's a winner, yet, Sir Jackie was TWO laps behind this Kiwi possessed, a man on a mission, just to have the win pulled from under his nose... AGAIN!!! Basically, virtually every race he was in was like this... let's not forget, this was 1969, six years after he entered F1 in 1963, (thank you Reg Parnell) finally Retiring in 1977, his last race being the 1976 Canadian GP and he never won a race. 11 Podiums, 83 Career points, 5 Pole positions, 3 Fastest laps, yet no win, he was robbed. He should've been a multiple World Champion, but at least the UK recognized his talent, we awarded him an MBE. 😄 I'dve made him a Sir myself, but hey ho such is life.
