This is the base after making the hull cutout, shaping the basic seacsape using the gas torch, and blending the hull in using acrylic caulking. This was also used to sculpt the main wave effects surrounding the hull.

Album image #7
That done, the base was sprayed green (aawy from the hull cutout) and then blue, aiming at a colour gradient between the white around the hull and the undisturbed water. Where I oversprayed too much of the white around the hull, I stippled some more white

Album image #8
This is after adding a gloss coat, and some more gloss clear acrylic gel to add a bit more depth. Final white drybrushing completed the base.

Very nice build! The red and day glow makes it very special in between all the grey ships. And your water is convincing as always.

Thanks a lot to both of you, it´s been a fun project and I like the somewhat different look of a grey ship with some colour on it!

A great model. I like your sea scape. How did you do the turbulent water at the hull. Never seen that before.

Thank you both a lot! The water around the hull, after internottent spraying of green, I added more white wall paint, stippled carefully. After glosscoating the base, I added some more gloss clear acrylic gel and drybrushed that after curing using white artist´s oil paint. HTH Frank

Thank you, Peter! I added some in-progress photos of the base. I have none showing only the white wall paint, but I think there are enough of those in the albums on Making Waves.

Album info

This is the completed model on its base. The model was built OOB, save two 3D printed liferaft canisters and some wire stiffening for the lower yardarms.

It was primed with Stynylrez primer, and painted with mostly Vallejo acrylics, save the DayGlo orange wghich is from my dwindling JPS stock.

For the very limited rigging, I used .1 mm Albion Alloys wire.
