1999 Chevy Silverado Pickup to a GMC Sierra - wip
This is what I'm aming for :B Man, those pick ups are so cool.
During the project, the sticker of the flag has been removed. So don't pay attention to that.
This is the donor for the grille. It is scaled in 1/24. Th egrille has do fit into 1/25. Challenge accepted 😄
After taking it apart, I seperated the parts of the grille to make a mold.
Silikone filled in....
This is the result for the first step: getting it narrow approx. 4 mm
After some brain stroming and looking at the parts, I decided, where to cut. The drivers side is smaller already.
cut cut cut 😉
...and then glue it together. That simple *lol*
After a little putty, sanding, paintig, putty, sanding 😉 it is small enough.
Some small dots to correct. I think than it's ok.
The prototype is done. Did a mold of it on Saturday. Today I wanted to see, how it probably comes out. So I painted the prototype. I'm ok with the result. The black part isn't perfect. For the built I'll do another one to fit it better into the fascia.
Working on the sunvisor 🙂
The first part ist done.
Put some stuff between the frame and axles to get the body higher
The bullbar is nearly done
The next step is the bumper fitting to the grill. With a little help of plastic stripes it's nearly good. Works great. Have a run 😄
The main part is done. Before I ruin it, I'll make a mold.
Why not together with the grill?
Here the silikones I use. The left two bottles I'd call it regular silikone. My brother ordered it at "Rai-Ro". The Right two bottles are basically silikone too but you can take it for food when you wish. I didn't try it so far to fill chocolate into a mold. It is used for Sweets (conditor / pralines) or at the dentists to build molds for "wrong teeth". I've bought it at amazon
The left two bottles is clear resin. I bought them on Amazon. The right two cans is regular resin (light tan). I bought them more than 10 years ago and only know, that it was in a shop near my hometown. I'm wondering, that it still works fine.
Starting with the side running boards
The side running boards are done. Well done, well done.
The second mold. Even not sure whether this mold works better than the first. At the first the edges weren't full of material at all. So I did another mold.
Another failure. But you raise from failure to failure.
After three different molds the outcome ist good. After only five tries of making them, it worked out good. Not that much trash produced 🙂
The lower air intake is done. Then I noticed a tiny different of the shape of the middle (chrome) part which I pay attention to.
First base coat and only small imperfections. Sweet.
Smaller steps done. The parts are prepared for painting.
A hugh step is nearly completed: the wider fenders. My brother worked on them while I was on holiday. Fantastic job!
The Fenders have to be fitted to the lamps.
The toolbox needs some little sanding. Then it's ready for paint.
The parts of the front end taped together. Like it 🙂
A Little Detail: the side trims are smoother then on the Chevy.
Sanding and filler. First look is ok but I've heard, there is more to do 😉
I like it.
It looks great so far. Great or awesome. I'm between a rock and a hard place 😄
First step of the hitch 🙂
The paint job is done
The wheels
First sitting test after the paint job. Awesome.
The hitch is done
Bug deflector and side window visors
The toolbox
Tinted glas
Fits good
Windows installed
Painting some details
Decals finished
License plate on
Looks nearly done 🙂
Tool box installed
Bull bar, bug deflector, mirrors and sun visor are installed
Sneek preview 😄

The main task is the grille. For that I was looking through the internet and found nothing. N o t h i n g coog. After all, I found such a DUB style police GMC in 1/24 scale. The best I could get. I bought it, took it apart and checked the differrent in the scales. A lot. The grill turned out approx. 4mm wider than in 1/25.

Thank you for your interest. At this point I only made a copy of the grill. The bumper isn't that far, but I'll take a copy soon.
I'm taking some Pictures of my equipment / material this evening.

It is more than 15-20 years ago when I bought it. I only remember that it was in a shop near my hometown. Sorry.

I don't know. But: I just grabbed it to see, whether there is a date "Best before end of" and I found it. Unbelievable!
So I know, that I definitely bought it more than 15 years ago. The fact, that the price is in Euro, it had to be bought between January 2002 and at least at March 2004.
That is the proof: the date on it could be stretched a little *lol*

I'm still learning to use it. I started last autumn with it. It is still a challenge to build a proper mold and to get the case out without imperfections.
Basically it is easy.

@Nigel: In theory it is, but like with every handcraft you have to practice veeery long and much to get good results.

I'm just making my first foray into making molds too. If all goes well, I'll have a mold set to churn out Big Block chevys by tomorrow. For the little pieces that need a 2 sided mold, I'm trying out using Polymer clay, which can be baked in the oven at 110º C once the impressions from one side of the parts has been taken (don't bake the parts though) Then I put all the parts back in with a little PVA to hold in place, then pour silicone over the top.

I tried blue stuff for the wider wheel houses. That worked not well. The time to use blue stuff is to short to get a good mold of it. So there is no other possibility to build the wheel house extension scratch.
@Chaz. Sounds interesting!

Now, that both pick ups are done, I uploaded two pictures of both in one picture to compare them. More pictures will follow in the gallery.
At least, we decided, to build another hitch because we saw two different kinds of it. It'll be changeable. Last parts are the antennas. They are not on the kit so far.
