Chi-Nu Kai/Chi-Nu II WIP

Nice, big and glossy box as we are used to from IBG
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/5/1/2/800512-33587-14-720.jpg)
I am aware that the turret isn´t cast 😉 but I wanted to go for some texture anyway. I again used it in an artistic way to give some initial "character" to the plain surface.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/5/1/3/800513-33587-50-720.jpg)
The texture i actually less intense than it may seem at the first glance, though I´m curios to see the painted result. Maybe I´ll texture the front plate (~50mm as the turret) too, but I´m not sure yet
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/5/1/7/800517-33587-22-720.jpg)
Rather nice crew figures. Maybe I´ll scratch a map or something of that sort to hold for this particular guy
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/5/1/8/800518-33587-67-720.jpg)
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/5/2/2/800522-33587-27-720.jpg)
Some really fiddly photoetch parts were involved...
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/5/2/4/800524-33587-33-720.jpg)
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/5/2/5/800525-33587-68-720.jpg)
Yeah. the texture REALLY isn´t THAT overdone 😉
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/5/2/6/800526-33587-20-720.jpg)
Unfortunately, the barrel was warped, which is not ideal by any means. Here you also see the new hinges
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/6/5/5/815655-33587-45-720.jpg)
Here we go! Three-tone camo made with Tamiya paints. I just went with hard-edges here for the late war Japanese pattern
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/6/5/6/815656-33587-52-720.jpg)
Lucky me, the texture turned out quite nice under some paint layers 🙂
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/6/5/7/815657-33587-24-720.jpg)
highlights were painted for each of the three main colors. Hopefully a wash will further enhance the detail. And yes, maybe I should have sprayed some highlights for each layer but whatever...
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/6/5/8/815658-33587-45-720.jpg)
Tracks left of for weathering
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/6/5/9/815659-33587-44-720.jpg)
I got to say, I love doing these exhausts!
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/6/6/0/815660-33587-21-720.jpg)
It´s just a couple of steps to get there:
1) base painting with dark grey steel color
2) while still drying work in different thinned layers/spots of light grey acrylic
3) tap on some mixture of dark brown/rust washes (enamel) to get the oxide pattern

Tracks and rubber parts of the suspension are basepainted, but we´re still lacking any weathering
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/6/6/2/815662-33587-41-720.jpg)
Again I used light and dark grey for the tools and tried to blend eversthing with a rusty wash
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/6/6/3/815663-33587-91-720.jpg)
I treid to do some wood-grain on the stock as well as to make a "non-metallic-metal" type of look on the main body of the gun. I just manage to get out of control with fully metallic colors way to hard some times 😉
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/2/8/3/816283-33587-52-720.jpg)
Initial chipping was done with acrylics that where lighter variants of the individual camo colors
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/2/8/4/816284-33587-99-720.jpg)
Some of the chips still seem "odd" to me, so I gott to tone them down during weathering
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/2/8/5/816285-33587-71-720.jpg)
A dark brown wash was also added to bring the details into focus
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/2/8/6/816286-33587-22-720.jpg)
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/7/2/6/816726-33587-75-720.jpg)
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/7/2/7/816727-33587-19-720.jpg)
I refined the chips using a dark grey/brown mixture thingy paint
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/7/2/8/816728-33587-75-720.jpg)
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/7/2/9/816729-33587-35-720.jpg)
Additionally a very subtle oil-dot weathering was added, which is situationaly visible and made the colors somewhat warmer and less uniform
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/7/3/0/816730-33587-61-720.jpg)
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/7/3/1/816731-33587-70-720.jpg)
It starts to appear "lived in"...
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/7/3/2/816732-33587-17-720.jpg)
I will likely use streaaks to tone down the "odd" chips here and there
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/5/2/8/820528-33587-71-720.jpg)
Some heavy rainmarks and splattered mud tones have been added
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/5/2/9/820529-33587-78-720.jpg)
Still got to work on my rainmarks though...
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/5/3/0/820530-33587-40-720.jpg)
some splatters of mud, oil and grease aree visible on the rear hull. Fresh stains were given a "wet" shine using wet effects fluid
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/5/3/1/820531-33587-62-720.jpg)
Running gear is as good as final and will be attached when I´ve figured out the exact composition of weathering that is still needed to "adjust" the vehicle to the scenic base
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/5/3/2/820532-33587-51-720.jpg)
After all I´m getting used to the really gritty look of the vehicle. It´s somewhat fitting if you´re imagining it driving from battle to battle in some more mountainous regions
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/5/3/3/820533-33587-88-720.jpg)
We could also just say that the vehicle fought in a city before and all the accumulated dust is now being washed off by the rain
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/5/3/4/820534-33587-26-720.jpg)
I´m not going to use another slide to try to justify my streaking-fail
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/5/3/5/820535-33587-20-720.jpg)
Tools fitted. Yes, the pickaxe is supposed to be in this position (apparantly)
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/5/3/6/820536-33587-71-720.jpg)
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/5/9/1/826591-33587-22-720.jpg)
Tracks fitted and imho it looks quite nice
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/5/9/2/826592-33587-86-720.jpg)
just some work on the headlights left to do
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/5/9/3/826593-33587-42-720.jpg)
bEnT bArReL
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/5/9/4/826594-33587-69-720.jpg)
Some splatters of dirt have gotten onto the upper hull parts, but this is what actualy happens when there´s crew walking around and mud flying 🙂
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/5/9/5/826595-33587-33-720.jpg)
AA machinegun has to be superglued in place...
