[WIP] Type Chi-Nu II in the Mountains

Album image #1
Terrain shapes are simple as I am no expert in building dioramas

Album image #2
I do plan to make a tree up on the hill as the highest level of the whole diorama.

Album image #3
Test fitting of the vehicle. Unfortunately, there have been some cracks here and there. I will further work out the terrain after a simple basecoat of cheap acrylics.

Album image #4
After the basecoat I decided to give AMMO of Mig texture pastes a shot and used to (turned earth and muddy ground i think) for some areas of the ground and the pathway the tank was driving on. I also added some decorative stones of two sizes that I got for some euros in a local shop.

Album image #5
Of course the next step is to change the colors a little and tie everything together a little further

Album image #6
The slope turned out quite prominent and there will be trees/plants on top of it

Album image #7
pigments and Vallejo acrylic washes tied the earth tones together nicely. Rocks/rocky areas where painted with light grey acrylics and highlighted a bit

Album image #8
I largely left the mud texture in its original slightly shiny colors, as it fittted the theme I had in mind very well already. Everything will surely be made "lighter" by some vegetation

Album info

I decided to give my diorama-building "skills" a try and put the IBG Chi-Nu into it´s enviroment. Thta much for the general idea.

Setting of the scene:
Somewhere on a Japanese main island, 1945 to 1946, a Chi-Nu II medium tank is moving along a rigde in a mountainous region in search for a good firing position to engage an enemy force reported to be in the area. While the tank has made a stop, the commander and another crewman are enjoying a bit of fresh air before the incoming battle while keeping a look out for enemy vehicles

The build:
The terrain was built up using simple packaging styrofoam cut in the rough landforms. It was then encased with balsawood and terrain shapes where modified with a plaster-tissue-paper mixture (darker grey) and coarse texture paste I had lying around.
Afterward I however decided to further work on it and got myself some AMMO Texture pastes that I used and changed the color using cheap acrylics and pigments.

Vegetation etc:
Ahem... let´s just hope I get it right... Wire trees are harder than they look 🙂
