US Coast Guard Rescue Boat - a rescue mission
This is the kit as I found it in the box. I bought a bottle of Deluxe materials DeBonder and set to work.
Good start, got the canopy off.
A few more parts removed.
After using 2/3 of the contents of the debonder, all parts were loose. Here they are, all washed.
All the little parts were hand brushed.
I have assembled the hull and decking, and painted it. The cabin roof on the right is only dry fitted.
Most of the stanchions were missing from the model, and the ones that came with it are not that good looking. So I decided to spend some quality time with some brass wire and a pair of round node pliers. I have also made holding rings for the rope that goes alongside the hull.
Decided to make new base, from XPS with balsa framing.
Waves are made with 2-3 layers of tissue paper and watered down PVA.

Looks similar to the one seen in the movie 'The Finest hours' (2016).

Thanks for the likes, all!
@Treehugger - yes, the movie is based on a rescue in 1952 by CG36500 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Pendleton#Loss). The kit is not of that actual boat, but the same type (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifeboat_(rescue)#36'_(foot)).
@Thomas - oh yes, it worked very well debonding the CA, I used 3/4 of a bottle to get rid if it all.

There's something extra nice about old kit rescue, looks good I shall follow along. Liking that wave base a lot 👍

Thanks, Łukasz and Andy.
The waves are made from 2-3 layers of tissue paper and watered down PVA.
The base itself is XPS with balsa framing.

Uploaded some images of the finished project. Quite happy with. The pictures are not that great though, I'm no photographer, but they give an impression of what the end result is.

This kit is a kit that I assembled 25-30 years ago. With CA glue. I had no idea what I was doing. I found the kit in this state a few years ago. I decided I would challenge myself and see if I could disassemble it and then build it back up again.
I have had slow progress on this kit. I have shelved it a few times, but hopefully it will soon be finished.
