Early Merkava

Album image #1

Album image #2
blanking off holes, filling voids

Album image #3
Voids on rears of bogeys - filling with both Perfect Plastic Putty, and superglue - ejector pin marks on inboard faces of idlers. Voids on rear face of springs will not be visible - the ones I am filling will be on the finished kit.

EVERY one has this seam, both sides - gotta clean up all 12....(sigh)

Album image #6

Album image #7
The dreaded hull/sponson INFINITY CHASM This has got to go....

Album image #8
Plastic sheet to the rescue! A bit of trimming and fiddling, no more void.

Album image #9
Marking up items to be removed per Eduard instructions

Album image #10
read careful, mark careful...

Album image #11
Same on the rear .

Album image #12
That deep pocket - for the drive light - If you use the Eduard P/E part (excellent looking!) You'll want to fill this a bit, as the P/E part will want to go down inside, onto the lip. I just rolled a small ball of white putty, and my P/E cover laid in nice and flush.

Like this.....

Album image #14
Hinges...Eduard gives two options -

Album image #15
On the left, you can leave the kit's molded on "halfa hinge" in place, and use piece 67 - or, what I did, remove the kits "halfa hinges", and use piece 46 . Much better looking, but tedious and requires you to fold the wee hinge pin over -

Album image #16
Quite a difference....

Album image #17
That is all for today. My eyes are crossed....

Album image #18
First light coat of Mig's "Real IDF Sinai Grey" - I HATE road wheels.....

Album image #19
Air intake boxed out and painted flat black inside, exhaust port just forward is simply round tube stock thinned out a bit.

Album image #20
Air intake in place

Album image #21
Engine exhaust - boxed out inside, very thin sheet forced into place and glued in.

Album image #22
Great tool for applying super thin CA glue - got this from Flexi-file, easily made by cutting the top off of a sewing needle - when it gets gunked up, simply burn it off, and wipe it clean.

PE is both a blessing and a curse, eh? I really do enjoy the added realism, but it DOES strain the eyes and tweezers!

Album info

Got the old Tamiya kit (bagged) at a real bargain - Not gonna go crazy with Metal tracks- mostofthe build will be OOB, I may add some PE and scratch corrections - LOTS of mold seams, ejector pin marks and voids to be filled first! Lets start with the bogeys and lower hull....
