I went to SERE school with Dee "Piston" Imlay we were cellmates in the prison phase. He was killed on 28 March 2012 in an accident at a forward deployed air base on his return from a sortie. I passed by the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery many times wanting to stop and pay my respects. In March of this year I stopped by the cemetery and went on with my day. A few weeks later I spoke with a coworker who turned out to be his crew chief and was very upset by his death. I figured building this kit would be a way to help him remember his friend and maybe ease his burden a little.
The kit is OOB with the exception of Quickboost seats. Those seats don't have rails so I cut them off the kit seat and glued them on. I made the masks for the tail number and used some decal making paper to print out his name and the decals with serial number specific details of the jet.
My friend loved the model and I hope it helped him in the grieving process. Some model kits take on a life of their own and this was certainly one of those kind of kits.
