1/700 USS Missouri
Cover Box
Brass parts, stainless steel chain, metal barrel, etc.
Full of goods 🙂
PE sets, 8 sheets in total
Painting instruction and wooden deck (which I won't use it due to 1944 camo being different)
All plastic parts
The board-side details are amazing considering it is 1/700 scale. Not much work is required here. I think it is batter than many 1/350 or even 1/200 kits.
hand rail and some bofors platform finished
Try to implement the technique which adds variations to illustrate the color variation of real wooden deck.
Add some details to the superstructure, need more work in the future
Build the bofors platform at the side of the second funnel. As it is made purely with PE sheet, it requires lots of work for smooth transection at the connecting. So I did a lot send papering to polish the surface. I painted with black locally in order to see the surface properly.
Main bridge, add some more details with PE waste.
Add some panels and optical equipment in the main bridge.
The back of the main bridge, add some details with spare PE parts to somewhat looks like the electrical boxes. Also add wirings.
It is regardable that the internal couldn't be seen at all after the main bridge is fully assessabled. I am not going to install LED lights in this project, so I pretty much wasted the efforts.
the bridge before paint
Now I moving onto the water base as I am waiting for more PE parts to be shipped.
Cut my palm in the process of making it. I really should get the wiring cutting tool next time. Using a paper knife is unfit for this job
I think I am happy with the details now with the superstructure. I think I will paint the lower part of the superstructure first. Finial photo before painting.
Different angles 1
Different angles 2
Done painting the deck. Add traceable amount of color variation to imitate real wooden deck.
Now is time to cover up the deck with cover strap and painting the broadsides.
Finished the MS32 22d camouflage, used 5O(C366),Black, and 5L(C307).
I am starting to build the rest of the ship while waiting for the paint drying. The forward tower and foremast are basically done, except the radars.
Other side of the forward tower
the funnel No.2 and main mast are completed as well.
Other side of the funnel No.2
Once the paint is dry, I started weathering with oil painting. I brought some LUKAS oil paint recently on a sell which is much better then the cheap local brand oil paint I was using.
This is my first time done weather effect like this which is made possible by batter oil paint. I think it is okay for my skill level and I am certain there are much room to improve.
starting to install superstructure after simple weathering. I am actually not too sure what to do with the superstructure and the effects are not aliened.
Installed the bridge. Still looks odd to me, probably will do more adjustment later on.
other side
Lost the PE for the left support structure of this fire director. Have to order replacements.....
Making 20mm Oerilkon AA. The USS Missouri had 49 Oerilkon installed back in 1944. I only managed to make 40 of it as I broke the rest....
First layer of the water diorama base. Need a lot more work to make it looks OK.
Try to compare different brand's quad 40mm bofors AA gun. It is clear which one is the better looking one.
As the main structure is completed, I am starting working on all the ancillary equipment such as ammo boxes, radars, boats, etc. Tedious and time consuming.
Try to paint the main MK7 turret. Unfortunately lost one barrel and have to order a replacement....
Assembled whatever is completed and painted at moment to reduce storage space. With a basic water diorama, it does look a lot better than before.
The other side.
Main turrets with three different painting scheme due to camo. Took a while to paint.
MK51 fire director. I replace the original plastic one with resin one. Add a bit more detail with leftover PE sheets. Not sure why nobody in China do 3D printing on these.
After installed the main turrets and AA guns. Still need make 5inch guns and small details such as telescopes.
Telescopes and other auxiliary equipment such as compass. For the telescope, I used 0.4mm brass rode for the base and resin bits for the top. The rest are from PE provided in the box.
SC-1 Seahawk. I should use OS2U-3 kingfisher for my 1944 Build for historical accuracy reasons. However, the kit is meant for 1945 build and it doesn't contain necessary parts for the kingfisher and there isn't any available in Chinese market at moment.
SC-1 Seahawk after painted and weathered. Still need apply wiring.
MK38 5inch gun, I brought these resin one before so I am going to use them as replacement for this project. The metal barrel came in the kit is not a good fit and I have to adjust its length. The end results look ok.
Ship after installing 5inch guns and sea planes. The work left are wiring/ropes, water diorama, and other fine detail such as boxes and sailors.
The wiring and ropes are pretty much done like this. The vertical ropes are made with 0.05mm fishing wire and horizontal ones are made with 0.047mm metallic wires. For the vertical ropes, I made it double to be more realistic

Updates (2021/01/08): Continuously working on the superstructure. The amount of work required is exceed my initial estimation. Many surface has to be properly treated with putty and a lot of polish, due to misfitting and PE design. I order few PE handrails and winders on Aliexpress for necessary detials (I think) which is not included in the box (Hopefully, I could get them before Chinese New Year). In the meantime, I am working on the water base. Cutting the ploy foam and glue on plastic sheets on the side. Cut my palm during the process, should have been more careful and using proper tool for this job.

Thank you for your concern Lochsa! 🙂, This kit contains 8 sheets of PE, so there is no point for not using the all! 😉

Update(2022/01/16) Finished PE construction for the lower part of the superstructure. Painted all wooden deck sections with traceable variation. Preparing for broadside painting.

Update(2022/01/26) Complete the camouflage paint for the hull and lower potion of the superstructure. Also applied weather to the painted sections. I think I will do some adjustment later on as it looks kind of weird. I also managed finished PE construction of the forward tower , funnel No.2, foremast and main mast.

Thanks Guillaume, there is indeed a lot of works required for this kit, which is far exceed my initial expectation by now. Lucky, the PE design isn't bad and it comes with things like masking paper to make it a little bit easer 😉

very clean handling of all that PE stuff. Your paint scheme looks promising too.

Thank you, Michael! this is my first time doing complex camouflage for a battleship. Hopefully, the final results won't be too messy.

Update 2022/02/21 - Somehow lost many essential PE parts for the project and I have to order replacements from the manufacturer. So I might have to leave this project idle for a while. Majorities of the ship structure are assembled and painted at this stage.

The tiny crewmen really emphasise how massive this ship was. I am amazed at your skill, and the details you have brought together. Superb 🙂
