Painting as usual involved a lot of masking, luckily Stynylrez primer worked great on the plastic, no liftoffs!

The bridge assembly after painting, this Vallejo shade works excellent for the Coast Guard colour "Spar"

Masking the flight deck markings.

The hull would look quite heavily used around the waterline, so I started my paintjob in the way.

Determining the correct waterline turned out to be quite tricky, the more so as I had to provide my friend Frank Ilse with the correct information to design the decals - many thanks, Frank!

Grunging things up a bit
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/8/9/4/1358894-10800-47-720.jpg)
The decals have been applied, and they fit!

The 1:285 HH-52 / S-62 helo was converted from an Airfix 1:350 S-61. Luckily, the PE rotors for the kit´s S-55 fit. They were also used on the S-62, so my Franken-helo must scale out somewhere in the ballpark after all.

And with its rotor.

Frank also desigend and made decals for the helo, a very big help!

Even the 1:700 Battlefleet Model USCG sheet wouldn´t have helped.

I applied the windows using very thin furnace tape painted dark blue. The decals worked very neatly!
