Album info

Started October 2022/Finished December 2022
In the hope that it will be included in the book which will be published this year by our association, I started this kit of the Russian-made Mi-17 helicopter used by the Turkish Gendarmerie. I had to manage with HobbyBoss's 1:72 scale kit because unfortunately 1:48 scale was not available when i started building it. When the kit was completed, at least 2 companies had spread information that they would release a 1:48 scale Mi-8/17 kit. Dealing with a helicopter of this scale is not an easy thing. Helicopters have lots of instruments that they carry on the exterior and those differ greatly from each other. These helicopters used by the Turkish Gendarmerie also had features that were not included in the kit. Most importantly, while the cylindrical part behind the rotor block, which I do not know what its function is, is absent in ours. In the turkish choppers there are two extra devices on the right and left, which I think are for cabin air conditioning. Apart from that, there is a huge yellow fuel tank inside the cabin, but this was not included in the kit. Not to forget about the horn-like antenne in the front. I had to struggle a lot to close the large hole that was created when I cut the cylindrical piece and discarded it. I did the other details from scratch/spare parts. Also, while our guys were using a damper on the rotor, this item was not included in the kit. Also, since the crane that came out of the kit did not satisfy me, I bought both the rotor balancer, the crane and the resin seats that can only be seen when looking through the door. The kit is essentially not bad, but its small scale brought some building difficulties. In terms of colors, I mixed the closest colors to the current photo myself. For beige, I mixed Gunze H44 Flesh and H310 in a 1:1 ratio, while for green I added a drop or two of gray to H312. I used black directly as glossy black. As for the decals, neither the Turkish flag nor the round insignia were correct in the Begemot decal set, which I bought specially for. So I had to pick up another set I had in stock. As a result, I could only use the Gendarme inscription from the Begemot set, which is actually not exactly the correct typeface.
