McLaren 720s
I am leaning to "Storm Grey" as the body colour but I am unsure, if anybody has suggestions they would be much appreaciated as this is my first Alpha Model kit
Starting some carbon work...
Decided on a light blue. I am going to add some metallic flakes next to make it a little more complex
I decided to switch it up once more and go for a black metallic look instead
some detail still missing and i took the screen out to clean up the mess i made while putting it in the first time
weave on the real car is only one way on the lowest diffuser so i did the same but kind of wished i did a middle split now
Interior is now finished
Gloss turned out good but made the paint look more bronze ish but now its too late to change so ill have to live with it
Difference from base paint to gloss finish. If i had known to turn out like this i would've used a matt clearcoat to keep the grey look
Fitment of the drives door is somewhat poor on my kit.
burned through the clear coat on the left side if anyone has an idea how to fix this let me know please
Trying to get the interior in i got some glue on the front trunk and fixing it didnt really work so i decided to make it a carbon hood even though i wouldnt have configured this if i were to buy one
getting the interior in was worse than trying to find a revell kit that fits properly. Instructions way of doing it didnt work at all... You have to fit the tub in first and then try to fit the door panels through the the windshield and cram them in their place somehow. The dash fit in nicely tho
Door fitment still is not perfect but close enough i guess as i dont know how to improve further
happy with how the rear turned out
thinking of changing the rims but not sure yet
and repainted the front as i didnt want to add the carbon bonnet after all its not perfect but better than the alternative
added some finish to hide the sparkels some more
still not done as i was busy studying the last few months but here are some progress pictures nevertheless
windows were a bit hard to install since they have no curvature at all. I might redo the rear as i still need to glue in the bottom half and they are not completley flat due to the buildup of paintlayers. The move would be to remove some of those layers where to glass is going to be but i dont want to ruin anything by attempting that
one of my favorite angles
almost done now some clear parts are still missing as i am waiting for some clear smoke for them (they are somewhat yellow ish right now) after that i am finally going to build a photo booth for some good pictures
Getting the lettering on the grill was challenging so i removed the PE part and used some glue on the back of the letters before removing the protective film

If you want an unusual color, I've seen a couple of times, cars colored matte gray. I guess it pretty much looks like "neutral gray". It gives it a sort of military look, even though it is obviously civilian. Presumably the non-glossy or non-satin surface finish would be more difficult to create.

Thank you Treehugger, i also considered going for something more sinister but as my P1 will be completely carbon i decided to switch it up for this one. The carbon on this kit however will be tinted blue if it looks good i will have to try it out first though

@Treehugger If it's the color I think you're talking about, I heard a guy on TV awhile ago describe it as "battleship gray". Seen a few cars around in that color...not sure yet if I like it or not. 😂
And great looking car, Marco!

Nice job on this. Nice of Alpha to include scale accurate panel gaps on those doors too!
