Thanks for the kind comments Jennifer, Villiers & Rando. 👍
@ Jennifer, I still have to add the undercarriage/guns, fuel tank, prop and cockpit etc. Before adding the matt varnish, I'll do some washes to slightly weather the aircraft. Hopefully, it'll turn out OK. 🙂
Thanks for your interest and likes Jennifer F and Rando D. 👍

Coming along nicely. You have a real affinity with these single engined fighters that are different from the usual suspects.

I now declare the N1K1 completed. 🙂
This aircraft denoted is one flown by Iyozoh Fujita, 341 Kokutai, 402 Hokatai based at Clark Field in the Phillipines.
The N1K1-Ja aircraft were used very effectively over Formosa, the Philippines, and, later, Okinawa. Before production was switched to the improved N1K2-J, 1,007 aircraft were produced, including prototypes.
Lieutenant Iyozo Fujita commanded a group of fighters from the aircraft carrier "Sōryū", which was part of the second wave that attacked Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941.
He participated in the battles of Midway, the Solomon Islands, the Battle of Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.
In November he was appointed as squadron leader of the newly formed 301st Air group. Between June and July 1944 his unit took part in the air defence of Iwo Jima. In July he was transferred to unit S402, which was equipped with the new Kawanishi N1K1 Ja fighters. In October, the S402 was consolidated into 341st Air Group and participated in the air battles off Formosa. The unit lost much of its strength in intense air battles over the Phillipines and was finally withdrawn to Japan in January 1945.
The final combat score of this Japanese pilot is unknown. The number of enemy aircraft shot down in various sources ranges from eleven to forty-two, but only seven aerial victories have been officially confirmed.
Fujita survived the war. After the war, he became a commercial pilot for Japan Air Lines (1945–1977). He died on 1 December 2006.
Thanks for your kind comments Djordje and Stephen. @ Stephen, I do like to build something different each time these days. 🙂 👍

The plane looks really good. Reminds me of a Japanese P-47 Thunderbolt. Although no doubt a lot smaller!

Wow, so other than length, the N1K1 is almost the same size as the Thunderbolt. Didn't think it would be that big.
