It's in two pieces at the moment (flight deck and superstructure, and hull), with lots of very tiny bits and pieces on sticky lollypop sticks all ready for spraying in due course.
I'm recreating it as a tribute to my wife's Grandfather who served on her as a 20mm gunner/loader during her service in the Far East.
When he passed away a few years ago, she found a folded up photo he had sent his mother of him and shipmates on the flight deck in front of an Avenger. She's since had the photo restored, and it's now in a frame on the Dining Room windowsill.
When I was researching this project, I was searching through the Imperial War Museum photo archives and came across the exact same picture on public display! iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205159368. He's the handsome guy on the top row on the far right (A/B D Rees, Gilfach, Bargoed). We now know that these were all Welsh Men on the ship, and they would probably have me up after the war, as they were relatively local to each other.
