Airfix R.E.8

A blast from the past. The 4th kit completed from my father's almost 50 year old stash. I built this straight from the bag, with no upgrades. It's just a really old kit with funny little pilots and fragile, yellowed decals. The only decals left are the wing roundels on the top and bottom, and part of the tail tricolour stripes. The fuselage roundels got stuck to some masking tape and came off, as did the aircraft numbers. I hand painted the numbers and sprayed the roundels. The kit went together quite well, apart from the nightmare of attaching the top wing. The struts have very little holding them in and wouldn't stay at the right angle. The 4 struts attached to the fuselage were too short so were replace with stretched sprue. The kit almost went into the trash after much frustration and glue going in all directions, but I recovered it and with a bit of paint to touch up the wings and struts it came out alright.
