Harrier GR 7A ZD404/33A (Operation Herrick),
Kandahar, Afghanistan, November 2006

In November 2006 the glamour models Lucy Pinder and Michelle
Marsh visited British forces in Afghanistan, including the Harrier
detachment at Kandahar. In their honour, two aircraft were painted
with ‘pin-up’ nose art depicting the girls – although they were painted
as silhouettes rather than colour images in order not to upset local
sensitivities. This aircraft was named Lucy and featured the message
‘Good work guys! Love & kisses, Lucy XXX’ that Lucy Pinder wrote
near the mission markings denoting kinetic events. The increased
activity of the Taliban insurgency during 2006 is reflected in the large
number of symbols – 19 LGBs and three airburst 540-lb freefall
bombs. The aircraft is loaded with two 1000-lb Paveway II LGBs and
carries TIALD pod.
