Hi Edouard👋😀👍.
Yes l just get cheap ones of eBay, the do different sizes, you can pull ends n spring out for barrel look, or file ends last to have a recoil cannon look.
The gun turret nearly there now....lots of sanding n filling low spot.
Thanks for looking in on build.👍👍

Hi Zbynek 👋🙂👍.
Thanks for your interest. Nice to know you had it too, l built X3 the Tu airliner and the bomber. But this was my favourite as l liked the shape and that it had floats n guns.
Got part of tail on this evening.

Good to have you along Guy 👋😃.
Bit of fine sanding n tidying to do next then look at getting an engine effect in cowling area.
I replaced side vent for smaller one now, checked photos... and l made it way to big.
Catch you on the next steps.

Hey Mr D whats the Gorilla Glue like? Is it a clear PVA or a resin Super Glue Type? Do you use it just for clear bits or as n all purpose? Thanks in advance E.

Hi, it dries 100% clear but is slow.. to air dry ..so leave overnight.
But it's worth it as very strong. And is very neutral on paint and clear parts.
It's almost like an air drying epoxy, not harsh like super glue or poli ...very safe.
I only use it on clear stuff as it's stronger than PVA but not good for general building.. l do use it to fill gaps sometimes.

Don't think I'd trust those decals. The red stars are easy enough to replace or paint on, the bort numbers might be more of a challenge.

Mr D ... 🙂 I like too to see, how much progress my skills during the last 10 years did. Good for me is, that I own most of my model kits since I was a kid. My first plane, car and truck are still in my shelf or boxes.
Because I stumbled somehow over your wip, I checked the history of the kit. It is rally unbelievble, that those engine openings are on the bottom of the motors. Amazing. I wouldn't notice that without your hint.

Cannot wait to see the result. Your work reminds me of my first kit, it was a Victor bomber by Matchbox (They had a JV factory in Shanghai at that time). But hard find it in the market now.

Hi Lorraine 👋.
Glad your interested 👍 there are X2 colour schemes for the be-6 the Soviet green or the Chinese blue, l liked the blue version but could only find suitable replacement decals for Soviet.
My first kit was the Matchbox Electric lightning,.... Built it with my dad....was nice as was 3 colour plastic out the box.
The first models l built on my own were the Veb/Playfix be-6, & Tu- bomber, so nice to revisit.
Got X2 models at min I'm preparing for paint.
Yours is coming along well...."carefully work" 👍👍

Thanks Skyhiker 👍
I usually use Velejo or AK acrylic, but I'm going to use Tamiya on this one as it won't fit in cabinet.....and l find Tamiya acrylic is a tough paint better for wear n tear, as I'm sure it's going to need dusting now n then 🙄🤣.
The Tamiya paint turns out to be darker than advertised on the lid n chart, I've ordered a white n thinner to Tone down.
Like you I've had 2x build going on.
The Fw-190 really pop's once decals are on..... Remember the trim tabs are red....l just had paint.

But l checked n the Romanian lAR interior was grey/blue.

Hi, Yes lve used it alot and holds up really well , l find the fillers a bit messy and more trouble than it's worth on small gaps.
You do need to allow overnight drying with it for best sanding results.

Yes it has a habit of filling in panel lines n bits not necessary!!
This technique is same as using alot of paint to fill a gap or high build primer ect...just becomes part of the paint layer as it acrylic too.
But it's not for big gaps!! As there is a bit of shrinking overnight.
Be onto marking rivets next step after sanding... Then need to make choices on open or closed canopy???

Nice collection of WTF box arts 🙂. To be fair, majority of them are from the ancient era (60's/70's/80's) of modelling, nobody focused that much on what's on the box back then (but there were also really nice looking artistic pieces from those times that I remember). I'll try to find some newer (90's and onward) box arts that I consider a "failed mission in marketing" - this one is a nice example from 2021 --> Saab TF-35 Draken (Skale Wings SS-72001, 1:72), and this one a bit older (2003), but also has a high WTF factor --> Messerschmitt Bf-109E 3/4 "H..tenkrad (Academy 2214, 1:72).

Yes it bugs me when classic box-art is altered to remove any sign of unpleasantness. This is an ideal example.

Very interesting collection of boxart. 👍
There is a reason for the shape of the boxarts made in the Soviet Union. The incompetence of the Soviet industry and the political situation influenced the creation not only of boxarts, but of entire kits produced in the former Soviet Union. Lousy boxarts were defended by claiming that the attractive color pictures on Western boxarts were just capitalist tinsel and bourgeois detailism. And a socialist doesn't need such things.
The model's box was made of poor quality cardboard with mostly two-color printing. From the modest Cyrillic inscription on the box one could read that the box contained a kit of model aircraft number xxxx, or at best, even more accurately, that it was, for example, a fighter aircraft. The instructions for building the model were printed on stiff paper, which could be successfully used as sheet metal. It contained only pictorial instructions for building the model. Any detailed information (colours, camouflage, what kind of machine it was and where it was used...) was missing. In most cases, decals were also missing. In some kits the decals were replaced by stickers. Most of these kits were pressed by the leading company Frog, which was acquired by the Soviets in the second half of the 1970s.
Curiously, the same models, but intended for the Western market, were produced under the NOVO brand. The quality and content of these kits were comparable to the original FROG kits.

Thanks Spanjaard. I'm making minor improvements to the set up as I use the space, but it's much more ergonomically laid out. I also raised the worktop level so that I'm not bending over as much as I used to, and that's much better for my back. Just make sure you have plenty of storage when you do yours. I've filled all the drawers and have still got stuff that needs a home.
The magnetic, under-shelf tool storage works very well so I'd recommend that.

😄 (I assume that is supposed to represent laughing – it looks more like constipation to me).
Spanjaard: The ducting was one of my slightly better ideas. It doesn't get rid of the paint smells completely, but it's much better than it was. Incidentally the stuff I used is called 'Kair System 100 Rectangular'. I bought it from a well known South American river😉 and it was quite a reasonable price - £37 all in. The brackets are overpriced but I managed to do it with just one of them.

Very nice job Gorby, and considering your self-reported aversion to labor a laudable effort indeed. I envy the natural light (my cave is in the basement, so no cigar). Nice work on the tool storage and compressor mounting as well 👍

Thanks Alec. I had hoped those years of manual labour were behind me, it's not good for your health you know. The compressor mounting works well – the rubber shelf mounting and the rubber mat absorb quite a lot of the vibration, so it sounds much quieter.
