Thank you all! Yes, it's based on a real story. As you can see in the description, Luis Puga was shot down by a harrier and survived 8+ hours and some days in the ground with freezing temperatures until he was found. I was able to meet Puga, a real knight of the air!

Went with a completely different color after a handful of missteps. I painted the roughest parts with a bit of rust-like...

Thanks! Kei cars are an amazing thing. These over fenders were a universal free file, first for shows that it'll be a bit of a struggle to get fit. But a challenge isn't a bad thing.

Well... First attempt at glueing the over fenders on was a failure.
BSI Super Gold+ was used, felt like it was good, then I set the body down and half of them just popped off. Sanding super glue off a kit body is for the birds. And if this fails 2 or 3 more times I won't have fenders to glue over fenders on to :/
Wondering if I should try a different super glue, a 5 minute epoxy, gorilla glue contact adhesive, or a NOT free file for over fenders? I am currently testing the BSI and contact adhesive on an old kit. I plan on filling the gaps with Tamiya putty tomorrow. But I'll be browsing other STLs until then.

Would anybody share what grit sand paper they get up to on prep work before laying primer down?
I took this up to 1000# wet sanding but I'm not happy with it. I'm wondering if I need to go finer, or if I need to use hobby paper vs this wet paper from the auto parts store?

"Wondering if I should try a different super glue..."
I wonder if resin type has anything to do with the glue/adhesion? I used Elegoo Water Washable Resin and dollar store superglue on a few projects. Never had an issue with parts falling off. Also, I pretty well use God Hand sanding sponges exclusively.

Thanks Mike. I am also using Elegoo Water Washable and I used is the BSI super glue gentle enough for painted and clear parts. I'll try a cheap bottle on a test kit next.
The auto part store sand paper does goes from paper to sponge at 2000 grit, so I'll try to take it a step finer before laying more primer. If that doesn't work I guess I'll buy something specialty.

I made the rookie mistake of thinking a Champaign Pearl color would spray like any other color...
My sad excuse for a desk lamp and my hubris proved that to be false. Worst job I've ever done at painting.
I tried some simple green to strip (to no avail) and ended up solving all of my problems with bigger problems. So now I'm sitting back in black primer with a few spots that I can't sand out without altering the shape of the body noticably.
Now I'm deciding if I'll pivot to a different color and live with some budget franchise body work finish, or if it's going to get the heavy weathering treatment.

These aber t-70/80/90 barrels with the photoetch fins are not the easiest build. The instructions recommend soldering the fins in place but I used IC-2000 black CA glue. Still, its a process and you really have to take care not to knock them off as you are manipulating the turret while building it out. The thermal sleeve clamps were a lot easier to assemble and tack into place around the barrrel with the same glue. Almost ready to put on the first coat of AK reflective green. I am using the AK Interactive Russian modern AFV colors for this build for the 3-color camo. I used Mr color transparent red for the Shtora-1 dazzler lights.

I have had some problems locating decent diorama bases at reasonable prices. Any leads? My next purchase is probably going to be a decent tall display case with glass so damn dust stops ruining my builds.

Well, I've a collection of photo frames so that I don't need to worry about that.
In Europe we can also buy some cheap chesse or bread wooden cuting bases, on i.e. Ikea or cheap stores...🤔
I have also been saving wooden wine bottle crates for the same purpose.

Thank you, Jan. This is the effect of the third attempt - first I tried to make them from thin PE board (failed), and then I tried Kristal Klear glue (not too bad, but it was difficult to control quantity of glue...). Too much CA can be simply sanded away when set hard.

are you sure those are not normal water slide decals? I say so because they seem to have a carrier film, and when I check the produc page of the kit, it say that it contains water slide decals.... they certainly look quite yellowed (no wonder with their age) but that sometimes can be resolved placing then in a window to get the sun to white them a bit.

Not sure. i scanned them, and I learned how to make decals the other day for my Orion spaceplane which unaccountably HAD NO PAN AM DECALS WTF. 🙂 so I can make waterslides if I want
On this kit I decided the lander needed proper feet, so I had to get my old resin printer which I hadn't used in a year working again and then I printed feet, but then I figured it needed a moon surface so I found one and printed it but it was too small so then I decided to use it with an old build spaceship build I did a few years ago of a smaller spaceship, so now I'm going down that rabbit hole but as long as I had the printer working I decided to make tracks for another build of mine where a tank was missing the rubber band tracks so I worked on that, but hey, there was some empty space on the build plate so I decided to also print some parts for a KNIL armored car from the Netherlands East Indies... and parts for a Schnieder WWI French tank.
I have been spending a fair amount of modeling, but not very much time finishing things.
Oh and I printed a larger moon base yesterday and it's out in the sun hardening.

definitively dry transfers, no doubt 🙂 no idea if putting them in the window will clear the yellow or finish ruining them.... and since they are quite simple (some would be better to just use masking), making new ones seems a really good idea.

Yeah or I might just use spares from my decal box, or I could use my cricut to cut masks for things and paint them on or... who knows what trouble I will get into. This is why I never finish anything.

What I've done is scan at a high resolution, clean it up in the gimp, and send it as PNG to the cricut software on my iphone. A PNG with transparent/non-transparent parts imports nicely. At a high enough resolution it doesn't matter that it's not vectors. But I can try inkscape, it sounds fun.

in inkscape you can use the option to trace a bimap. it may take a couple of tries until you get it right, but then it is a vector ready to use for both decal or mask

Whats everyone's thoughts on this boom of 1/16 scale armor? I never thought this would catch on. I remember the old huge Tamiya kits (that cost a fortune) but now Takom and others are making tons. I guess if you have the shelf space its great and a lot easier to detail a much bigger scale. Especially of someone has aging eyes or other issues. I think they are neat but I would not have much space for a lot of them. I have had my eye on that Takom German Wiesel kit though as I have always loved that modern little tankette. If I ever do try 1/16 it would certainly be that vehicle.

Oh I can see the appeal of 1/16 kits, they must be very impressive when built. Much too big for me to store and it would be a bit of a shock to the system to go from 1/72 to 1/16. 😄
I do know someone who is intending to gradually replace his collection with these larger kits even to the point he's willing to sell much of his current stash to fund it. He's building this kit at the moment and loving it.
Panzerjäger I B (Takom 1018, 1:16)
I am quite tempted by the Gecko Universal Carrier, which would also be quite a small model even in 1/16 scale, although the price is well above my budget. Personally I'm happy to stick with smaller scales.

I have built the Pz 1 Ausf B and is a nice kit to build, lots of external detail but no internal detail whatsoever. I have purchased the Trumpeter 251/1 and is looks a nice kit.The Das Werks kit is a little bit more expensive but the level of detail is far superior.

I like the idea of 1/16 especially for smaller subjects like light tanks. I'm not much of a German armor modeler, but hey, a Jagdtiger in 1/16 would be fun wouldn't it? If there was an M3 medium in 1/16 I'd buy it in a second. There's even some company that builds 1/8 scale metal armor kits. So far my only 1/16th subjects have been figures and a sea mine, but I do have some 3d print files I could scale to 1/16 within the envelope of my resin printer.
I just remembered I built a K-Wagen in 1/35. It's huge... building one in 1/16th... hmm. Maybe I need a larger resin printer.

I Like 1/35 scale and doing dioramas. So if the space is already an issue, the 1/16 scale would be impossible.
Not that the building of this kits would not be more interesting, I think they would, but the higher prices issues is for sure a no no for me.

Main assermbly done on all four models, but now I have a few days to spend sanding and filling unwanted seams and crude areas. A bit tedious, but that's what you get when you choose to build four nearly identical models at the same time.

Mr D, no, they are pretty much the same. Most of the parts for all versions are provided in every kit. But there are some subtle differences that need attention, like the extension of the fuselage for the fighter version.

Patrick, haha, I am a pretty fast builder, but I am extremely slow when it comes to painting. That's where my projects usually come to a crawl.

With only a few minutes of modeling here and there this week, it's quite a slow progress, but I am still inching closer to the finished assembly.

Cool! Please be careful with the wiping, let the base seat color dry properly. Use Tamiya acrylics for base color (lacquers will probably work too) Also, do not use flat, at least semigloss or gloss for the base paint so the stitch paint will be easier to wipe off. Use waterbased paints for the stitches (Vallejo, etc) wipe of IMMEDIATELY with water and if necessary a bit of the same brands cleaner.

That is so cool 👍 Could you probably explain in a few words how you did the illumination? Is it some kind of a kit, do I need an electronics degree for it or is it easily applicable? What kind of PCB is the one you are using? Anyhow hats off, that looks amazing!

Thank you Alexander. These lights are not as complicated as they seem and don't require specialized electrical backgroud. I bought some LEDs with dimensions of 0.6mm x 0.3mm and in different colors, 3 volts. So, all that's needed is to connect a battery and a switch.
The PCB board is a multi-switcher, enabling me to control those lights with a remote controller. Additionally, I plan to use soft filaments for the flame part. Different colors and different lengths also available in the market.

@Alexander,
I bought my remote switch from a local store. But similar one available in amazon or ebay. Below one has 4 channels, DC 3 - 24 V voltage range, should be good.
amazon.com/dp/B09P89RF8R/
You could also search if this is available in your local store, key word is "RF433". If the LED light is too bright, you could connect some resistance in series. 10KΩ is ok for those LEDs.

@CaptGPF, the flames are included in the kits. I just painted them and put the filaments inside.
@Alexander, I tried your suggestion, seems I overestimated my skill😜 The stitches are really difficult to be a straight line. Finally I brought a decal (dot line decal) for these stitches. Anyway, I'm still really grateful for your instruction. I need to practice more.

Do you jave some programming experiences? If yes ,i can recommend you the small microcontrollerboards with esp32 or esp82 chip. With some programcode, you can control your models over wifi from from a web-interface on your tablet, handy or pc 😉

@ Jennifer, not quite. 8 years ago I discover scalemates, and posted it, but this one was my 2nd or 3rd Dio??? Done so long ago that I don't even remember when. And I'm such a slow intermittent modeler that I used to stay years without one single build.
Than scalemates enter the scene and I was more motivated but even so my mojo it's better but still very inconsistent
@ Mr James, you may be right but don't worry, scalemates it's a never ending source of Great and new and Beautiful work's that are always appearing, that's why I'm here every single day since.

Hi, Rui S 🙂 ! Out of all your models, I think this one reaches the greatest level of realism and meticulousness. It's not as big as your Panther diorama but still it must have taken a long time to complete. That is some great work right there and it is definitely inspiring. I hope you have another one like this in the near future 🤙

Oldie but goldie! A "Raupenschlepper Ost" is always a great subject in my opinion. And Sa-Kuva - Please type in: RSO
There is a lovely picture. The Finns had used 10 RSO in continuation war. I think the colour is German sand, the PAK is estimated finnish 3-Tone (green-brown-grey). Finnish green and brown may be very similar on bw-photographs.

@ Jean-Daniel, Thank you very much for your nice comment. I'm glad you like them. The RSO tracks were a real treat, it was quite difficult to mold them convincingly, as I didn't know what superglue was at the time. 😮 So I had to use sewing thread as I did and documented later on my Esci halftrack sdkfz 10/4.
@ Jennifer, Thank you so much for stoping bye and comment. Apreciate and happy for your kind words. What I meant is that the Ketten, the trailer and the figures were not painted with an airbrush, but the RSO was. I think it was the first time I used it in a 1/35 kit.

Hi, very nice result, on mine, the kennels are Friulmodel, they are the first ones I mounted, a tedious, but good result, the tarpaulin is a paper handkerchief.

Hi Jean-Daniel, Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you like it.
I've used the some tarpaulin material in my Opel blitz. It works just fine.

This turned out great Rui and is a worthy case for the oldie but goodie chart. I think some old Italeri kits are better than their newbies. I think this kit began as a 1976 tooling by an obscure brand called TOMY. Anyway I'm going up to the attic soon to see what ancient goodies I can find...

Done lots of filling and sanding to get the wing and the fuselage of the first Kfir to fit. Started rescribing and getting the second on to the same state.

I also got this kit (the Italeri one) when I was child, in the middle of the '90's. So it's an awful kit, but that time wasn't better. So, I'm curious for the result.

Welcome István! The Revell is just a rebox of the Italeri kit with nicer decals and a different instruction manual 😉

Nice start, I remember building this kit as a two tone grey Israeli bird a long time ago. Which scheme are you going with?

The Revell one has only decals for the camo scheme, so the Italeri one will be the grey one. Maybe I get my hands on the AMK kit before I get to the decals, then the Italeri will maybe get the Atac livery.
But first there will be some more sanding and filling the sink marks that are now visible. I also made some scribing mistakes, so this needs some putty as well.

Decided to go with the Atac camo with the Italeri Kfir. The Revell one already has the Isralei camo and decals on the undeside. Also I broke off the petot tube again. This time it stays off until the last moment.

Small update from the last couple of weeks: decals from the AMK kit for the Kfir 401 from Atac were applied, along with some from the Italerim kit itself. Also the landing gear was attached to both aircraft. Ready for final smaller paintjobs, weathering and some antennae and the landing gear bay doors.

Finished the first Kfir, built fromt he Revell box with the decals provided. As I was looking around the AMK kit for the Atac decals, I noticed, that the AMk kit provides way more "stuff" to hang under the wings. So i got the Special Hobby IAF set and used some pylons, bombs and additional fiel tanks. i also switched the missiles fromt he kit to 3d printed Sidewinders, should be AIM-9Bs.
I noticed, that when I glued the canopy to the fuselage with super glue, that the transparent part fogs up. When I wipe it with iso it gets clear again, but just for seconds. Any tips on that?

Nice duo!
For wiping the CA off I'd recommend tine amount of CA debonder

I would suggest 1:35, because the trucks don't exist in 1:48 and the wood planks are too wide for 1:72

Absolutely! 👍
Those are 1/35.
AFC Club (M10 and WC51), Tamiya (Panther G & PzIV F2), Italeri (the two M4A1).

Thanks for the kiind comments. Didn't photograph the build progress. The bomb rack was a problem. I didn't follow the airfix instructions as the loadout doesn't fit if you do. The wings were assembled and painted prior to fitting, but the spars needed a fair bit of sanding to get a good fit, maybe it was me. Shall add more photos later

Good work with all the tiles and panel lines. I'm not patient enough to do that!

I can't even tell if photo 1 is the build or the real thing. Very nice build.

Yes Markus, I used MS PowerPoint to design it, and print it myself. Don't know how to use photoshop or other design software😛
