Airfix Triumph Herald

Album image #1
Bits and pieces. Got to start somewhere.

Album image #2
There's a bit of a height mismatch along the right hand top edge of the light cluster. Back to the filler again.

Album image #3
Also sink marks on the tail end, both sides.

Album image #4
And inside the font end too.

Album image #5
Some reshaping of the bonnet was needed to get a good fit at each outer end (the pointy bits) where it butts up against the windscreen.

Album image #6
Body filling done. One thing to note is that the pointed profile either side of the boot lid is not symmetrical. I think I've managed to get it about right. I'm sure I'll find out when I get a coat of primer on it. I'm contemplating simulating the carpet texture on the floor pan, hence the pencil line where the rear seat starts.

Album image #7
A quick rough coat of Mr Surfacer was allowed to partially dry, Then I stippled it with an old brush cut to around 3-4mm long. It's not great, but it won't be all that visible with the seats in and the transparent parts fitted. It just needs to be not smooth like it was before.

Album image #8
There is a lot of flash, heavy mould parting lines and sink marks to deal with in this kit. Not surprising as it dates back to the early sixties!

Album image #9
I noticed that the underside of the front was not sitting correctly. It was skewed to the right and had dropped too low on the left. Several very careful sessions of twisting and pulling to shape look to have it sitting properly now.

Album image #10
Section 1 complete, apart from a little tidying up.

Album image #11
Next up are parts 17 & 18...which are in there somewhere!

Album image #12
I'm having a go at doing something about the lack of interior side/door detail. Not sure if it will work out, but here goes nothing.

Bruce, I have the Amodel Zveno 1-A in my stash, so that's always on the cards!

Hah, build this kit when I was 16 (1968) Can't say that I remember noticing any of the issues you mentioned. Says a lot about my modelling skills those days 😛

Ah, Lex, but the moulds were still fairly new back then!

Looking at it I see my comment can be read in two ways.
My comment was by no means critical of your build. More a look back at how I built back then. Slapping plastic together at a fast pace. I really like to see how this kit can be built with the necessary attention 👍
And now I'm very curious for the end result

I didn't take it as criticism Lex, just making a point about the age of the moulds. I've also realised that the long protrusions that run along the full length of both sides didn't seem to exist on the real car. There is also no detail in the inner sides of the cabin.

Are you tempted to create the inner sides of the doors? I have spare window winders, etc you could have. It's always nice to peep through the windows and see the interior 🙂

Full of rust I guess a few of them got done up

Jv, I think the flash is actually DIY seatbelts.
