![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/6/4/3/164643-10977-71-720.jpg)
I must say that the details is nothing short of exquisite on the air brakes.
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/6/4/4/164644-10977-56-720.jpg)
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/6/4/5/164645-10977-64-720.jpg)
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/6/4/6/164646-10977-16-720.jpg)
But then I'm met by this BOO BOO by Aires! We'll see if I can remove the casting block and add the rivets again. Otherwise I'm gonna go with the kit air brakes that actually is rather good even if they're shorter than the Aires ones.
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/6/4/7/164647-10977-70-720.jpg)
The bang seats is sanded down so they fit in the pit. Now I need to scratch new ejection handles to them as they're broken from the start and with no bits left in the box to glue back.
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/6/7/9/164679-10977-54-720.jpg)
Removing the air brake from the casting block and scrape as much as I dared of the idiotic extra resin.
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/6/8/0/164680-10977-97-720.jpg)
Tamiya tape as protection while I sand down the air brake.
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/6/8/1/164681-10977-70-720.jpg)
The result.
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/6/8/2/164682-10977-45-720.jpg)
Unmasked again.
![Album image #49 Album image #49](/albums/img/6/8/3/164683-10977-75-720.jpg)
DYMO tape as a guide.
![Album image #50 Album image #50](/albums/img/6/8/4/164684-10977-38-720.jpg)
Not good but It'll have to do as I'm afraid to break the air brake if I press harder, it really feels brittle. But look at the next BOO BOO from Aires considering that the air brake is shorter then the air brake bay.
![Album image #51 Album image #51](/albums/img/6/8/5/164685-10977-71-720.jpg)
The usual chaos!
![Album image #52 Album image #52](/albums/img/7/7/9/164779-10977-76-720.jpg)
A slight mishap with the saw on both air brake bays but nothing that isn't fixable. I don't think you have to remove the casting block from the bays but it saves weight.
![Album image #53 Album image #53](/albums/img/9/8/8/164988-10977-90-720.jpg)
Test fitting one air brake bay
![Album image #54 Album image #54](/albums/img/9/8/9/164989-10977-12-720.jpg)
Hmm
![Album image #55 Album image #55](/albums/img/9/9/0/164990-10977-44-720.jpg)
Hmmmmm
![Album image #56 Album image #56](/albums/img/9/9/1/164991-10977-43-720.jpg)
Grrrrrrrrr
![Album image #57 Album image #57](/albums/img/9/9/2/164992-10977-52-720.jpg)
This looks like a tight fit that very well could go south rather quick. Safest bet is to go with the kit air brakes.
![Album image #58 Album image #58](/albums/img/9/9/3/164993-10977-90-720.jpg)
Nothing more to remove from the can as well...
![Album image #59 Album image #59](/albums/img/0/5/6/165056-10977-65-720.jpg)
The story so far...
![Album image #60 Album image #60](/albums/img/1/1/9/165119-10977-61-720.jpg)
A little more surgery on the resin parts and I get a positive test.
![Album image #61 Album image #61](/albums/img/1/2/0/165120-10977-63-720.jpg)
I'm not sure about part 6 & 7 along the side of the cockpit. They're in the way for the windshield.
![Album image #62 Album image #62](/albums/img/1/2/1/165121-10977-99-720.jpg)
Here you can see it better just how much the will interfere with the windshield.
![Album image #63 Album image #63](/albums/img/1/2/2/165122-10977-79-720.jpg)
Look at these lovely sink marks, three on each side of the cockpit...
![Album image #64 Album image #64](/albums/img/2/5/1/165251-10977-78-720.jpg)
Yet another successful offering to the Model Building Gods!
![Album image #65 Album image #65](/albums/img/2/5/2/165252-10977-89-720.jpg)
Time for a bath
![Album image #66 Album image #66](/albums/img/2/5/3/165253-10977-48-720.jpg)

Hey Urban, ya wanna know it, hu?
That looks awesome to me! But why not in your scale?😉
Damn this is an abolute complete set! 😄

It scares me but I eventually must leave the shallow water in the pool and learn to swim in deep water as well.

Plus, If I get rid of this beast there's gonna be more room for 1:72 kits...

I always like to build different scales, at first i was only into 1:72 but after my first big scale i was definately hooked!😉

I will watch with interest. I'm planning to do the same and I'm wondering how parts will fit.

What a damn amount of additional work! But the result shall be rewarding!
And how does it feel to build such a big block of plastic?😉

I hope I'm gonna be able to finish this one before midsummer this year but everything is so big compared to what I'm used to.

Do you have a mask for sanding resin or do you do it like me and sand wet?
21 February 2015, 20:40
![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
Yes and no! I've got a mask that I'm keeping forget to use. I try to use the saw as much as possible and use the vacuum cleaner frequently and when I sand I do it with slow strokes but I sand dry.

![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
True! It's a new experience to tackle replacing resin parts. It's one thing just adding some resin stuff and a whole new world here with a lot of work to get it right and a lot of guessing. But the detail is stunning on the Aires resin.

Just looked at all of this resin madness....loving it all. I'm tuned in for the rest of the build!
24 February 2015, 07:03
![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
Thanks mate! I believe that "resin madness" is indeed the correct term here. I hope that I won't let you down.

![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
That gives one week of building at yet not one piece glued or painted so far on this build but I did manage to get some blood on the resin so it looks good for the future.

![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
No, I don't use my Dremel on the resin. GWS saw, exacto and beutyshop nailfiles is what I use on the resin.
25 February 2015, 00:38
![](/profiles/img/11850-s.jpg)
What detail on those cans, drool, drool! Any photo etch involved in the project?

Speaking of Razors have you tried using a Mini Razor saw with assorted blades???
25 February 2015, 08:10
![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
That cut was healed to the next day, just a matter of letting it bleed a bit and then just wipe it off with the thumb on the same hand and keep going..
I've got a Dremel but I feel that I've got more control going by hand.
Not much PE involved in the build, just the fret that comes with the Aires cockpit.
I'm quite fond of the PE mini razor saws and use them quite a lot.

![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
True that as there's no technique that is absolute for all modellers. For a new builder it's a bit trial and error in order to find out what techniques that works best.

![](/profiles/img/15194-760-s.jpg)
A little late Urban but I'm pulling up a chair and watching the rest of the show. Looking good so far. Will there be more blood?
17 July 2015, 14:58
![](/profiles/img/10977-s.jpg)
Thanks mate! There could be more blood as there's a lot more work to do yet, especially as there's not been any work done on it since the last update. An eight year old promise got in the way plus I've had quite a lot of ache as well but I hope to be able to continue soon.

Yeah mate, it's not a proper build without a proper blood offering to the modelling Gods...

Album info
My first ever venture into 1:32 and also the first time I deal with resin of this magnitude.
