Spitfire Mk.IXc late version
Unpainted cockpit and fuselage.
Cockpit test fitted.
Cockpit painted and ready for the other half of the fuselage.
Ready for paint.
Ready for paint.
Basic camouflage painting done
First step in the weathering process using lightened and darkened base colours.
Next step is to paint the invasion stripes.
Invasion stripes painted.
Now onto my favourite part; the decals.
Next step is a subtle panel wash to finish the weathering process.
A simple oil wash can really get the details to appear. I have slightly exaggerated the wash on the lower side since it is less visible from the “normal view position”.
Another example of what an oil wash can do for the surface details.

Thank you all. Christian; the seat is painted in the colour Eduard suggests, Gunze H33 Russet. Normally I use Vallejo Burnt cadmium red with a pinch of white in it or Tamiya XF-64 lightened with a pinch of XF-15 but I was out of both when I was about to paint the seat.

Hi Mats! Thank You for this info. I was only wondering why the seat has a different color from the rest of the cockpit.

Nice start Mats. This is a lovely kit to build. You can never have enough Spits.

You're welcome Guido 🙂
Thanks Martyn. I agree, this is a great kit. It almost builds itself.

And yes, you can never have enough Spitfires and One-Oh-Nines 🙂 My Spit vs. 109 ratio is 3:4 at the moment....

Thanks Christian 🙂
The camouflage was masked using blu-tack, paper, and Tamiya masking tape in various sizes. Everything was tidied up by carefully airbrush freehand.

" tidied up by carefully airbrush freehand"
that is extremely neat and tidy freehand ! all the edges have such a consistent "radius" if you know what I mean 🙂
the slightly soft edges look just right !
