Mosquito build
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/1/9/4/333194-30178-55-720.jpg)
Cockpit in the early stages of the build. It's a bit if a shame that most of that beautiful detail will be near invisible.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/7/9/0/320790-30178-76-720.jpg)
Damn, that's BIG, about 66 cm wingspan
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/7/9/1/320791-30178-90-720.jpg)
Very nice detail on the engines too, and the fit is perfect.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/7/9/2/320792-30178-58-720.jpg)
Added seatbelts from the metalfoil lid from my cat's food! I know they're not quite correct, but good enough for me.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/7/9/3/320793-30178-41-720.jpg)
Added some extra detail to the walls, mostly wire
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/7/9/4/320794-30178-87-720.jpg)
One side of the fuselage was pretty warped, but I got it together eventually!
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/4/0/1/324401-30178-69-720.jpg)
the wings wouldn't go on like they should, and i couldn't figure out why. So a little adjustment and a little filler was required.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/4/0/2/324402-30178-13-720.jpg)
It starts to look like a plane, a BIG plane!
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/5/3/8/327538-30178-36-720.jpg)
Heavy weathering on the engines, and I did them both different. I'm planning a diorama with one engine in and one probably hanging from a crane on a truck.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/5/3/9/327539-30178-49-720.jpg)
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/5/4/0/327540-30178-40-720.jpg)
Some mild rusty spots on both engines. The diorama will have some mechanics restauring the plane, sometime in the 2000's.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/5/4/1/327541-30178-72-720.jpg)
Part of the fun, painting! Except from the black (tamiya) all enamels from humbrol and revell
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/5/4/2/327542-30178-57-720.jpg)
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/5/4/3/327543-30178-56-720.jpg)
All painting except from the cockpit green and black for the engine was done with a brush. Sofar, that is.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/5/4/4/327544-30178-35-720.jpg)
Next up will be the landing gear, got some nice white metal after market parts for that!
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/1/6/4/329164-30178-24-720.jpg)
White metal landing gear
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/1/6/5/329165-30178-39-720.jpg)
Still some cleaning and polishing to do
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/1/6/6/329166-30178-81-720.jpg)
My first time trying white metal after market parts
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/5/0/1/330501-30178-77-720.jpg)
This landing gear has taken the term "fiddly" to a whole new level
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/5/0/2/330502-30178-14-720.jpg)
After several attempts to glue the white metal cross struts (?) in place without bending them I decided to use the plastic kit parts.I also glued the tanks on upside down.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/6/5/8/330658-30178-92-720.jpg)
Corrected the tanks and some other mistakes
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/0/2/4/331024-30178-70-720.jpg)
The engine and landing gear assemblies are kits in itself. Some fit problems of the engine assembly, and turned out I got the wrong one! The engines differ in 1 part, but you can't swap them around!!
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/0/2/5/331025-30178-93-720.jpg)
The mudguard assembly. Fitting that in place is another challenge, as the ceiling of the wheel bay, where it should be glued to, can't be installed until all the other parts are in place....this calls for some thinking ahead!
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/0/2/6/331026-30178-51-720.jpg)
This nacelle won't have the engine installed. The diorama will show some mechanics that have just removed the engine with a crane on a mercedes truck. Pictures later.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/1/8/9/333189-30178-22-720.jpg)
One engine in
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/1/9/0/333190-30178-79-720.jpg)
One engine out
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/7/4/3/333743-30178-58-720.jpg)
The instructions from Airfix show 2 arrows to drop the nacelles in place under the wings. In real life it took 30 minutes of wrestling, sanding, cutting and swearing and lots of pressure and glue to fit them.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/7/4/4/333744-30178-31-720.jpg)
The fit of the nacelles is terrible. There is no way on god's green earth these things will fit without lots of trimming.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/3/2/8/341328-30178-49-720.jpg)
My first camo in probably 30 years. Will need a touch up session, but overall quite reasonable. Looks even bigger with some colors on!

Hello Daan,
I'm not sure how much of this model you want to scratch build.... but we are currently building 3 of those kits in parallel and we are half way through the process.
The most issues we had so far, we encountered with the main landing gear and engine frames. The plastic of the kits is so bridle that it is either already broken in the sprue or it breaks while cutting it out.
The landing gear is designed to be moveable, which is pointless and complicates the construction a lot.
I wish you a lot of fun with your build.
Cheers Robert

Hi Robert
Thnx for your message. Just started this kit and already noticed the brittle plastic. I'll keep that in mind when I get to the landing gear and engines. I'll probably leave one engine out, i'm sort of planning a diorama where this plane is being restored and one engine hanging in a crane build on a truck. But that can change....
Cheers
Daan
