In a first attempt to get the translucent look of the gliders skin of fabric, I painted the wooden parts with dry brush and highlighted the interspace per airbrush and white paint. Next step will see the "linen" color being sprayed in thin layer over this priming.

The appearance of the skin of linen is finished now- I show you a few pics of the result. Next step will be painting the wooden leading edges and the wooden fuselage construction with a combination of air- and dry-brush.

Very effective translucent effect Roland. I will have to remember this when doing my Wright Flyer model. 🙂

The wooden leading edges and fuselage construction has been prepared with a mix of Gunze colors and artists acrylic. The gloss will be reduced to give a better fit to the linen surfaces.

The surfaces have been finished by now- and the degree of glossiness have been adjusted.
Now the final phase will start: rigging and working with etched parts.

Hello mates! Thank you for your comments! Miro, ich freue mich, dass meine Auswahl erfreut! 🙂
Hope you enjoyed hiking in lovely Austria- and this summers temperature!
As a gimmick, the figure from the CMK set "German SG-38 Glider Pilot" will be used for a photo session; after that it will be removed and the kits seat will be glued in it´s place.
I painted the figure with Gunze and Vallejo acrylics. To pay regard to the fact that this SG 38 has been flown in communist post-war Czechoslovakia the pilot was presented with a red scarf made from metal foil 🙂

Looking good, the kid too... not that easy at all to try to paint transparency... but you managed... The linen part above the wing, is this squashed between the wooden braces?

Thank you Bart! I suppose it is as you have described; that is a rather rustic construction 🙂

Bart, I have compared the appearance of surviving SG 38 with the boxart picture: you are nearly right- or, in other words, I am half-wrong! It seems as if the linen should cover the forward or the backward strut of the overwing-tower. Thank you for this observation and your interest.

Finished at last! Thank you mates for your interest and your motivating comments- the SG-38 is ready for it´s first model-flight!
That is a real gem of a kit, nicely detailed, although the BrenGun detail set with it´s bunch of etched parts was very welcome. For a few pictures I affected the pilot to take it´s seat, but my figure-painting skills did not convince me, so I completed it unmanned.

Nice one, keep on trying on the figgies, that attempt wasn't that bad. I would be glad for such a result

What a fantastic result, everything about it is convincing and you are being too hard on yourself about the figure IMHO

Wow, very nice and convincing work. I much like the subtle paintwork and the rigging 👍

Unbelievable finishing Roland. Something for unshaked fingers, unlike to me.

looking for inspiration for a glider build I stumbled upon this SG-38 and really like how you managed to achieve this semitransparent look of the fabric covered parts. The very fine rigging is a treat too. Excellent build.
