Thanks so much for your interest mates. I'll try to do this one justice. Today I primed the cockpit and should begin painting it tonight.

Thanks Kees & Erik!
Painted the cockpit using RLM02 from Niche. (A paint I purchased in bulk sometime in the 1990s.) Still works!

Nice job, Nathan! 🙂
Also, what is this "Scalemates Messerschmitt Bf 109 Group Build 2020", please, and how can I get notified that something similar is happening, or where//what/who do I have to go//follow to know about it in the future? (I'm more interested in AFV, though.😉 )

Thanks Sylvae 🙂
Typically the groups builds are initiated by regular users here and could literally be any type of kit. Generally you just need to find several folks that would like to participate and then it usually expands from there. I think @Jos Jansen started this 109 group build so you may need to contact him on exactly how to set it up.

Hello Sylvae, everyone here at SCM can create a GB, you can do that at the tab "Events":
scalemates.com/events/event.php?a=insert&m=edit
It's like Nathan says, you have to find fellow modellers who have a common interest, then post a question and see who responds. For example, you can start an AFV GB ... super fun for everyone who participates. 👍

I knew Jos would help you out 🙂
Roland: Thanks! Yes, I kept looking at that box art and couldn't bring myself to order those Galland decals. Besides I spent all my $$ on those AK Xtreme Metal paints for my Su-30 build 😄

Nice assembly work. I really like those tropical versions with the filtered air intake.

Thanks mates 🙂 Today I was able to get the RLM76 painted. I probably won't do the RLM02 until tomorrow as the Niche paints take a little longer to fully cure than other acrylic paints I've used.

Thanks Erik! I really love Master Model products. I wasn't going to use them, but the Hasegawa parts were molded poorly in my kit and no amount of sanding was going to save those parts.

Thanks Erik, Christian & Sylvae!
I'm fairly happy with the results so far. There was one really bad spot on the other side of the fuselage, but luckily this will be covered by the white stripe 🙂

Nice paintjob! It must not have been an easy job due to the size of the BF-109.

Thanks Guillaume!
I told my wife it was another cursing and tears session lol. I typically use an old Badger single action to do these fine lines, but it's been in storage & I couldn't get it working for this build. I ended up using my mega old Aztek airbrush with the pressure turned as far down as I could manage.
Thanks Guillaume!

At least you can adjust the presure on your compressor. Mine only have one speed. But it was a gift so I'm far from complaining. At least my Badger 150 can regulate the pressure a bit.

Hey Guillaume, you may want to check out a company called TCP Global, they have compressors and airbrushes for very reasonable prices. That is where I got mine, and 4 of my 6 airbrushes.

Started placing decals today. I ended up having to replace all the major markings with Aeromaster spares. As you can see the kit decals "white" has turned to a rather odd cream color. I guess that's what happens when a kit sits in the stash for too long. 🙂

Agree with everyone, great work. Nathan, if you tape the decals in a window facing the sun for a couple of days it will usually remove the yellowing. It has worked for me several times. I do not have a lot of experience with Hasegawa decal, but building this Airfix 109 I know Airfix's decals suck. LOL.

Thanks Clifford! I'll definitely have to try that out since I have plenty of old Hasegawa kits.
Today I assembled and painted the prop & hub. Just some weathering to add and it will be ready to attach.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the "place the decals in the sun" method only working for yellowed carrier film and not for white parts of decals which are yellowed?

@Erik, yellowing part is *usually* the carrier film itself which is the topmost layer . colors underneath has other signs for ex. whites will have the most easily noticeable cracks when held under direct light, which mean the decal would most likely dissolve once it hits the water and sunlight can't do anything to that particular problem.

Took this one to our local club meeting tonight with positive responses there. Told everyone to come on Scalemates and get some inspiration from everyone here. It's certainly helped me 🙂

I did, I have 2 of them now and 3 or 4 1/72 scale ones. It sure would be nice if someone came out with a new tool 1/48 one.

If you finish all of yours and maybe rescribe one, then someone is sure to come out with a new tool. 😄

I will be re-scribing the next one. I had to re-scribe the tip tank/missile pods and under wing fuel tanks on this one. The guy I bought it from had already started those, and they had large steps where he did not get the parts lined up very well. So they required a lot of sanding, needless to say the raised panel lines vanished.
