Thank you. Thank you. My friend and I enjoy making up stories like this. We have a Design Studio at the Bird and Cat 🙂

Messerschmitt Bf-109E-3
WNr. 970, pilot Feldwebel Roman "Trampel" Schreiner, manoeuvres November - December, Pardubice Airport 1939

After the end of the invasion of Poland on October 6, 1939, some units were moved to the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Among them was the 2nd (J)/LG2, which was stationed at Pardubice airfield. Feldwebel Roman Schreiner was also in this unit. Although he did not shoot down a single enemy aircraft in the Polish campaign, he did manage to "shoot down" on various occasions a stack of hay and a ladder truck with hay that was at the beginning of the runway. He even managed to land once on his belly with the landing gear retracted. That's why his friends gave him a very apt nickname "Trampel" (trampel or trampeltier means something like a hoe, a boob, a mischief maker - in short, an elephant in porcelain) and his friends painted five stacks and two carts on the directional sign instead of shooting down enemy planes. During one of the exercises, Schreiner decided to visit his hometown Moravská Chrastava, where he demonstrated several acrobatic elements. However, in the heat of the action, during one of his passes, he managed to hit a brewery chimney with his right wing. Fortunately, he managed to fly to Pardubice airport where his wing was replaced with a new one. After this escapade, his mischievous friends (besides painting the chimney down on the SOP) one night drew a picture of a camel breaking down the chimney under the cockpit with white paint. Feldwebel Schreiner's flight logbook, however, continued to fill up with more unbelievable accidents and so he was transferred to the school squadron in Chrudim in early 1940, where he mostly flew slower and relatively safer machines. However, he never got rid of his nickname "Trampel(tier)"...
